Question 15 inch tire recommendation ?

Looking for some street tires, but would prefer the best handling/sticky tires I can find.

The car is only driven on weekends, so I can get away with a low treadwear, no problem

    Wouldn't mind autoXing it too

    Wheels are 15x7 BBS.

    recommendations???

Based on price from Tirerack (and of course, very good performance), these tires are worthy of consideration:

    Dunlop Direzza DZ102 http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....num=05VR5DZ102
    Yokohama S-Drive http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....partnum=05VR5S

For a little bit more, check out:
    Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 R http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....num=05VR5AD08R

I have no direct experience with any of the above mentioned tires, but based on ratings and feedback, these are tires I would consider along with BoBo's suggestions.

The new BFG Rival S is supposed to be very fast, along with the RE71R.

My Kumho XS tires have been very good to me. I have raced the heck out of them, and they feel like they have held up extremely well for ~2 years now. Even on race tracks they grip more than I'm almost brave enough to test. I will say the car is not very easy to "save" if you spin out on these, as once the rear end starts spinning and you correct it the car regains grip in a harsh, abrupt manner. Also they are awful for racing in heavy rain, but fine when driving normally.

I'm happy with the ad08r's I'm running on my car.now. grip is great and they are fairly quiet although they are fairly new still. I liked the rivals before but they were somewhat louder.

Man those Yokohama Advan Neova AD08-R Tires are pricey!! But Im sure they are worth the money, might have to save up for those. I've always been a Yokohama fan though.

    Randy,

    Just some thoughts and consideration...

    195 vs 205

on a 7" wide wheel, you will get a square setup on a 195. A 205 will fit fine, but you may feel more squirm and slip angle. Personal preference. I like a 195 for the lighter feel and *slightly* less traction/grip. The car feels a little more agile and loose on a narrower tire.

For a 195, I would consider the Toyo R1R or a Dunlop Direzza Z2 Star Spec, just so you have some decent wet-weather ability should you get caught in a passing shower and such.

On a 205, maybe consider a Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R, the Direzza Z2 Star Spec, Yokohama Advan Neova Ad08R, or Toyo Proxes RA1.

A few of those are R-comp tires with good wear characteristics. The RA1 is known for it's wet-weather capabilities, which is rare in a comp tire.

The only caveat I have, because I know how clean you like to keep your cars, is the extra road blasting really sticky tires can do to the lower body. Still, driving a comp tire on the streets is HUGE fun!

The last tires I used was actually Yokohama Advan 032r and they had a treadwear of like 50 or so....

It's way overkill for a street car, but I NEVER, and I mean NEVER drive my Miata in the rain if at all possible.

I know the DOT race tires will be messy and very LOUD, (it sounded like a monster truck in the cabin) but wow the difference in corner grip is night and day once they are broken in.

I would do a 195 but the cool sticky stuff in a 15" is 205, but yeah 195 would be the way to go for sure.

I think I paid about 115 a tire from tirerack, so it's about in line with the other offerings

The Direzza Z2 Starspecs are excellent. I had them on my e30 and a Miata. I tracked and DD on them. I recommend them. I know it's not too important, but they are also amazingly good in the rain, even down near the wear bars.

the 195/50-15 sizing is perfect for what you want.

Wet is always a factor in Florida, rain comes outta no where in the summer, but only last 10 minutes, but that is just enough time to make the streets wet and greasy with road oil. Thanks for the heads up.

Hankook RS3, I prefer them over the Starspecs I used to have. I'll come pick you up during the next rain storm and take you for a ride down some back roads.

I have the DZ102 right now and the grip is excellent with ultra high treadwear. It's not as grippy as the XS tires I used last year but the DZ102 should last you a very long time.
