That's absolutely true, but even so, it was removed with so little effort I was amazed!

Excellent! Well, not the injuries, but the rest of it definitely.

Will this be an engine refresh or will there be machining for overbore and compression bump?

Haha, thanks! Refresh only, bottom end rotating assembly is staying in the block. Goal is a fresh stock spec engine that can take mild Rotrex boost (8-10 psi) for another 100k miles

Arm is slowly back on track; cannot do any heavy lifting (or put any respectable amount of force), but I can move it so I am happy. Between my last update and today I had the chance to do some planning and bought some more stuff.. starting with the ECU (MS Labs MS3 Mini) and a wiring loom off a VVT car. Installed the ECU in a spare stock casing, and went on to create a spreadsheet with the pinout and wire colors in the engine loom. I am going to slightly modify it, running some additional wires through the empty pins on the OEM connector so to keep everything nice and tidy, hence the need (plus serviceability).

Next step is to clean the loom up, re-wrap it, de-pin and replace the injector plugs with EV14 plugs (I hate adapters), re-pin the IAT for an open element GM one, and use the stock MAF input for another GM temp sensor (oil), which will go on the sump.

I also fooled around a bit, (over)designing a fire extinguisher cabin mount as well as new Elise seat mounts. These are off to the laser cutters, hopefully will have in hand in the next couple of weeks so I can move ahead. Pics of it all when I get back, as I am currently sitting on an airport in Frankfurt.

Right; updates on smaller stuff. A while back I was made aware of a clear OEM Mitsubishi map light lens which was pnp for NBs (part no. MR951527), so I bought and installed one (photos courtesy of normalguymx5 on IG).

You may also remember the AWD setup I was teasing in my "for sale" thread. This did not came as a single setup; had to piece it out of 3 different cluster setups. Everything was used, but the gauge rings and lenses have seen waaay better days. Lenses were dirty with glue residue and scratched to hell, while rings had at least 4 types of glue on them (hot glue, silicone, cyanoacrylate glue and double-side foam tape). It took me maybe 12hrs in total to get them clean enough, which involved x-acto knives, isopropyl alcohol, boiled water and a propane torch... At the end I managed to clean them up, and fortunately they only had few minor scratches. I bought a set of Revlimiter anti-reflective lenses to go with them. The lenses are pure magic, it is amazing how little reflection they have. You can get an idea here, but you really have to see them in person to believe it.

What I found really useful was Adam's "how-to" install G5 rings. G5 is out of business, but the guidelines apply to AWD as well, as they are almost identical. https://revlimiter.net/mods/g5-ring_install.php

Long story short, take your time, use tiny amounts of silicone at each spot, smooth it out as much as possible, and DO NOT WIPE the excess. Took me almost 2 hours to bond the lenses to the rings, and almost 1hr to bond the rings in the cluster (while waiting a full day in between for the silicone to cure), but worth it!

Installation on the car did not went smoothly as I was hoping. When I put the cluster on, none of the 3 small gauges would move. Uplon closer inspection the lens was touching the needles, locking them in place. Revlimiter lenses are 0.5mm thicker than original ones, which is not much, however when coupled with AWD needle caps, they touch. Solution was simple, removed the cluster panel, and pushed all 3 small needles further in, which worked a charm. Just thought to document in case it helps anyone running in similar issues in the future.

    Installed:

    and night time glory shot

I am in love! Problem is...I also love my custom RevLimiter set equally much. I can see myself swapping between the two every now and then!

The setup looks fantastic, Harry! I couldn't agree more about Adam's anti reflective lenses they are a MUST HAVE, imo.

As much as I like AWD gauges and respect the OG of custom gauges, they really can't compare in terms of quality to Revlimiter's Gen. 3 gauges which are nicer than probably 95%+ of OEM gauges and have yet to see any other aftermarket replacement gauges for any platform that is as nice as Revlimiter's.

Thanks! My custom Revlimiter set is actually a Gen. 2 (was the first thing installed on the car after maintenance) and I can tell you that even Gen 2 are better than AWD gauges in terms of quality. Being also a custom design, they are very close to my heart. However...this particular AWD setup has been my goal for so long and I am thrilled to finally have them on the car. Pretty sure I am going to switch back and forth a lot between the two

Got one question for NB/NB2 experts (Adam?). My AWD gauge scale (JDM NB RS) is different to my EUDM cluster; despite this, it still registers the correct speed (checked over various speeds vs. OBDII and GPS). That leads me to the conclusions that there's something within the cluster that does the conversion (pulses from VSS to gauge angle/range). My feeling is that's this in the little ODO screen assembly. Now, I wanna use a EUDM NB2 cluster/flexible PCB, as all warning lights are in the "wrong" position (different between EUDM/JDM for reasons only Mazda knows). Reasonably using a NB2 cluster and the JDM NB RS odometer unit and gauge faces would lead to a EUDM setup that works correctly with the JDM speedo scale. Can anyone confirm that?

Thanks Randy, huge compliment if it is coming from someone like you who has owned virtually all of Miata unobtanium parts! I am also in love with them.

BTW these AWD parts are really a huge testament to Adam's work quality. We all know how valued and rare they are, but put it simply even Gen 2 Revlimiter gauges are better in terms of quality; let alone Gen 3.

Scale is only relevant on the gauge, the cluster has nothing to do with it or at least the is my understanding. Which is why the gauge zero position can be moved/rotated and be anywhere and be correct.

Not really. You are correct about the zero, but a 270 sweep on the AWD/JDM cluster is approx 190km/h, while on a EUDM the same angle corresponds to approx. 270km/h.

Well I'm at a disadvantage as I don't have them to compare. It sounds like you answered your own question though, Harry, as the difference sounds to be in the cluster if the same portion of gauge(270° or whatever) doesn't equate to the same mph/kmh.

I see on Adam's site there is several selections for different clusters. I'd say email Adam. Report back please if you do as I'm curious now.

I searched as much as I could, and I am quite confident that it is the odometer unit that controls the speedometer. I will jump into it during the weekend and report back, as there's no definite answer yet anywhere.
