Good suggestion Steve. I plan to do a compression test once I get the gearbox back on the engine, so that I have a mounting surface for the starter, but I do not have access to a leak down tester (unfortunately). Judging from the general condition of the engine though it should be fine.

Pan is coming off in any case for the oil pump and baffles upgrade. I was thinking of pulling the main and rod caps just to check for wear, but will most certainly skip it.

I also tend to think that removing the head to install the 99 HG might be a bad idea after all, although needed if I want to run a coolant reroute. Plus I am not saving any money by not doing so, as I already got all the parts here. Decisions, decisions...

Personally, I would do the HG and swap out the head bolts for studs. Especially with the rotrex.

It is a questionable decision, as the head will have to be skimmed/cleaned for the new HG, and that might be asking for trouble. I already got ARP studs to go with it ;)

Shouldn't be an issue. I would reckon you would be running a knock sensor anyway with the rotrex. a .25mm shave should only be needed at most. If it's as clean as it seems, it could be less.

Yeah, I am not worried about the compression ratio, mostly worried if the machine shop will mess something up in the process. Although the shop I am thinking of using is one of the most reputable in the country.

If it was an old beat-up engine, the decision would be easy, stick to the original plan. It being so clean is what holds me back ironically.

I cannot remember your power goals, but if testing is good, I would leave it alone. because you already have the materials, and the engine is on a stand my method would be to do it now. Most reputable machine shops here in Atlanta can flycut a head to your specs while you wait. 15-30 minutes.

Busy AF again, final push for deadlines before the summer vacation. Took a small break from everything this evening and replaced the lower shift boot. The old OEM one lasted 5 years and 50.000 miles or so. I went for a Dr.MX5 silicone one this time round, hope it lasts the same!

I'm running that with the Jass Upper. I think they're the best combo you can get. heh.

Thanks! Good to hear, as I did not had and first hand experience. They quality seemed really nice though. Took the opportunity of having everything apart to test fit my new-to-me Nakamae center console. Crappy pics of filthy interior to get an idea:

Not sure how I feel about it to be honest...

Just spend a half hour looking at a TVR Chimaera interior, you'll feel more comfortable with your new console after that :-)

Hahaha! I mean it is not bad, fitment is quite good with all fasteners on, but the transition between the dash plastic and the carpet does not really flow designwise; at least for me. I was aware of that at the time of purchase, but it was a rare opportunity to find a Nakamae console at my light beige/parchment interior colour, so being the sucker for rare JDM parts I am I pulled the trigger.

Take some shots from above/behind I think you'll find it feels better, that's closer to the perspective you have as a driver anyway. Alternatively what can you do about the plastic parts of the console ?

I have a theory that Nakamae was kind of designed from the driver-on-the-right perspective and a lot of interior just feels weird from, what is, to me and the japanese, the passenger side.

For instance the handbrake must just be weird so close to you...
