Given the spoils of California car culture and year round top down motoring, the biggest outstanding question about north of the wall was clear. I’ve met a few of the local Miata club who seemed very pleased to see a new minty OEM Sunburst in town. Emphasis on the OEM part. Not sure they’ll appreciate the modifications on BERG let along Benny but it might be fun to be one of the younger members in the local Miata chapter.

It seems if you look hard enough, or know where to look, you might be surprised in what you find. After Hours Supply Company is a bunch of locals that have a specific appreciation for car culture of the modified JDM variety. Like KINOD they’re a lot younger than I am but feeling like they’ll be a source of fun and camaraderie. They were holding their first annual car meet. As usual I paid too much attention to the cars and people and didn’t make much use of my phone but there was a surprisingly large turn out (100+ cars easily) with a wide range of expression.

My nephew who turned me on to this crew, drove up with a contingent of 10+ from Vancouver.

The first fun JDM cars I’d seen, and of the variety that might scratch the sometimes snow element of Canadian living. Stohly seems to have caught the bug too…

I was flying out the next day but Mrs R and I joined after she let me install the period correct bra on her Sunburst (more pictures caught by my nephew)…

And with that, all was feeling pretty good in the world.

For those of you following along, my family and I were up in Canada. We had our family hauler and two of the Miati up north. That left Benny and my “daily” down South. The challenge was my apartment only has parking for one. The opportunity? Well, I had a bunch of parts that I’d been collecting for a while and a couple jobs I didn’t see myself tackling any time soon. Well, and the kind souls at Integrated Performance were willing to tackle some work while letting me keep my care under their care for three months.

Various pics from a few YJA auctions and Zoom back when they were on Rakuten
    Fog light switch:

    Fogs

    Fog brackets

    Rear zoom fog

And some side skirts I’d had for a long old while complete with all the fasteners and rails (not shown). I actually handed them off to Alex with a fully translated set of instructions I’d made using Google translate.. (just shout if you’ve any interest).

I also took the opportunity to have all the bushings replaced with the Mazdaspeed ones. And while they were at it the control arms were replaced (and Chikara magnetics plugs put in after the changing of the oils).

A big box of the old well used ones…

When I landed back in LA I’d been out of the country for three months. Car was ready for its final alignment. I have to say, the skirts exceeded my expectation. Most wouldn’t notice them which is perfectly fine by me. There’s already a lot going on with this car that I just wanted a little more girth low down next to the tires.

Jeo also has trusted BlueJay to Integrated for years so not an unfamiliar site to see these siblings together.

Rear foglight/ driving light. (note to self.. it is bloody bright. Need to make sure it gets wired up to the fog switch and not the general lights.. or maybe just hook up to the brake lights since the porter’s aren’t particularly bright). One to noodle on but there would be time for that after getting out and reacquainting myself with many of my favourite routes.

Also from Zoom engineering was their leather covered hood. Didn't include in the above as I didn't want anyone to think that I was handing off a hood replacement to anyone else. ;)

Thank you for those updates and pictures. Wish you and your family all the best for Canada.
The Miata is nice as always and the yellow Eunos jacket is awesome. Saw them a couple times at YA and Minkara.
Unfortunately there is little action at forums in general. But bad times will hopefully pass.

Remember the Lake Arrowhead trip I’d never done before? Well Vu arranged for an even larger group to get together for an early morning trip back for some camaraderie and waffles. A 5:45 wake up call on the weekend typically means one wonderful thing, very limited LA freeway traffic!

There was a great turn out.. JonB, Mike, Vu (and his crazy clean NB now running his new Esqueletto front clip!!), Kevin, Alex, Kiet, and a couple new ND friends including Respark Garage who took these awesome pictures which do the best job in showing you the great time we had!

Ahhh I love signing back into Mazdaroadster.net and seeing a new post from Oldgreyleather. If you ever needed more encouragement to continue this thread, please do so - its awesome.

Mike's car is such a muze too. Such awesome roadster builds.

I really need to spend the time to write up the rest of my build thread.

And then just like that I was enroute back to see my other family in Canada. Both my parents and my brothers settled in Vancouver which is also where Mrs. R and I reconnected after college and spent the next eight years together before we moved to the UK. When Jen was growing up, her parent’s had a vacation home in Peachland which was just on the other side of the Okanagan lake from Kelowna. Her family all eventually settled in Kelowna over 20 years ago so we’d been lucky enough to spend a fair bit of time there visiting. It’s where we got married in ’96 and is 446 kilometers East of Vancouver in the heart of Canada’s wine country. When we were thinking about where we would like to end up it seemed like a pretty natural choice, at least as a next step. I can’t say I ever really tire of the views. There’s something magical about the combination of water and mountains…

I was back for a couple weeks but had a return flight on October 24th. I wasn’t just coming back to California for work but there was a few magical Roadster things about to converge all at the same time. First, two of my dearest friends (both of whom I met on this very site) had decided they needed to make their way westward from Florida and North Carolina respectively. Now my new apartment meant I couldn’t extend the kind of hospitality I'd prefer but figured we could make it work.

Roadster7 arrived first and with a free day to hand we needed to come up with something to entertain us. Maksim didn’t get a chance to drive Angela’s Crest when he came through for MRLS so we set off for Newscomb’s Ranch. As it turns out, on a Thursday it’s a fairly easy 55 mile drive. Newscomb’s is at 5,340 feet which makes for a decent climb up the twisties and made all the more enjoyable when the roads aren’t busy…

Did I mention what a bonus it is to have great friends that are also talented with a camera?
