It turns out that installing one little safety mod in the Sunburst (harddog deuce) was enough to break the seal for Mrs. R to start considering other potential "enhancements". She expressed a little interest in wheels specifically and said she'd love a beautiful set of StarSharks (good taste and all but really?! It took years to find the first set in 4x100). For some reason she'd decided that white would really complement the yellow paint (gold not so much and black/ gunmetal was too "serious". White and silver sharks never existed to my knowledge but I couldn’t argue they wouldn’t look nice). She also appreciated the simplicity of Bridgestone SuperRaps so I showed her another modern option that was similar in style. I'd shared this with Vu (a fellow Roadster nut with an exquisite white NB) who noted he'd picked up a set of the aforementioned wheels a year ago and had still never mounted them. He also said we should test drive them for a while, like until summer. This wasn’t even the kind of soft sell “try them, you’ll like them, then you can buy them” ploy you might be thinking. In fact Vu was very clear he was not prepared to part with them. He liked having them in his collection alongside the 15’s (MTE37, RS8’s and Equip 40’s). This was Vu just being a huge hearted individual. I've said it a thousand times before but the kindness found in this Roadster community never ceased to amaze me!

So a couple days ago, Vu drove the 25 miles up to our house with the wheels in the back of his car and while we caught up with masks on he mentioned his afternoon plans had changes and that we should get the wheels on. The first three went on with little effort but the security bolt on the last daisy broke (I know, who really felt that these wheels needed the extra security measured back in the day?!).

That ensured the last wheel was going nowhere. I again thanked Vu for his generosity, asked for reassurances he really was down with this and off he went on his way while I spent the next couple hours trying zip ties, vice grips, hose clamps, et al to remove that one last bolt before I conceded and drove it to our neighborhood alignment place. They were swamped but promised it the next day so went around to collect.

I think the CMC O3’s in Sandy Silver (shod in brand new Azenis) really complement the Sunburst. Mrs. R still thinks they would look better in white but we’ll see. 14x7 (+20) is such a great OEM+ fitment and I love seeing the wheel wells more suitably filled. It does partly emphasize the opportunity to address the right height…

For the last couple years Kevin has organized a New Years Eve cruise and despite COVID restrictions a socially distanced drive was on the cards so we met at 9am to get together for some masked hello’s, introductions to some new people (and their cars) and then a drive off to San Pedro. I'd thought about bringing the Sunburst to get a chance to try out the new wheels but since Michael's OEM SB was coming felt like a little diversity was in order (well, and a little boost too ).

Such a great way to end the year with just enough time for me to get the Prime Rib in the oven for a few hours of reverse searing before we all said a welcome au revoir to 2020! Hope that ’21 brings all of you and yours the very best in the year ahead…

Love the CMCs, but I have to agree with the Mrs., that white would look even better.

Regarding the Hayashis, proper replacement covers could be thermoformed from acrylic, with a 3D scanner and a CNC milling machine for a mold. If you ever need a replacement, I would be happy to assist as I can.

I agree, the CMCs are an excellent OEM+ look, but yes, needs a little bit of lowering with it. A slippery slope is approaching

Love it when a plan finally comes together...

Back to work but will remember fondly the nightly midnight drives up La Rotonda Drive to an empty Palos Verdes Drive East. Lots of bends and stunning vistas of Catalina and the LA Harbor...

Thankful the new phone takes much better pictures at night but even still feel like I got lucky with this shot...

OMG Hayashi lights. I've ALWAYS wanted a set even though I prefer pop-ups. They've been the white whale for 20 years for me. If I ever got them, I'd likely buy another NA to put them on that same month.

Bravo. Bravo. Cannot wait to see these installed.

Side note - if anyone reading this comment is feeling benevolent, do NOT offer me a set of Hayashi lights, I beg of you.

I do love my RSA's so much that I expect the Hayashi's might end up on the BRG (I think they look particularly good on dark cars). The thing I love about them is that they still do pop-up.. just the wrong way (to preserve aerodynamics?). haha

A long weekend means absolutely no more excuses for putting off jobs on the cars. The passenger power window went on Berg last year and was replaced with a factory one. It did in fact go up and down so that fixed the issue. However, I'd finally seen a video of Maruha's upgraded power windows and coincidentally the driver side window started to slow just in time for Chikara's Thanksgiving Day sale so I ordered a single kit along with a Delrin bushing.

The Sunburst's manual driver window also was taking a bit of extra work so decided with the nice weather and the extra time that would make a good start.

I was too keen to get to work so didn't take any pictures of the window removal and clean up on Berg.

This bucket and brush is as close to proof as I have that I scrubbed the rails very well to replace them with nice new Honda grease...

The main differences between OEM and Maruha's kit are shorter wires and less mounting points (including 10mm for all the nuts whereas OEM had a few others that were 14mm). No idea if it's weight or cost savings.

Oh, and their kit doesn't come fully wired like this:

So I just had to figure out if black (normally the ground, right?) went with the green and blue to the red...

I wired everything up and before putting the motor and track in the door did and test and sure enough, my hunch was right and the motor moved the cables around.

While I was swapping cars around I had eldest son move Berg and said with a grin, see how fast the window is now? "It doesn't work" he said... "oh wait... yes it does. But down is up and up is now down". Oh well, not many hours of sunlight left so moved on with the Sunburst since it should be easy enough to take the door card off and swap the wires in the morning.

The only picture I took of the Sunburst was this one because I had never seen such a clean door interior nor one with a factory intact dust guard. I mean, just look at how clean those butyl seals are. Almost felt like a shame to remove it, get covered in goo (well, atleast my gloves did.. learned that trick the first time) but put in a new delrin plug (original was 95% intact) and messed with the alignment of the tracks to the point of minimizing any tension.

With those two cars taken care of there was only one that I'd neglected...

So off for a fill-up and an hour or so of driving up in the hills before retiring for the night.

All in all, today was a pretty great day...

Great updates as usual Pete! I always get behind because it is in the NA section instead of the build thread section.

    Appreciated!

Hmmmm, didn't even think about where this was posted for discovery (I suppose when I first posted I didn't know if it would become a build, haha). Perhaps I need to ask Randy about moving it... :hmm:

Same for my Shinsen build. I have it in the NB Section. I need to move it to the build thread section as well if possible.

Moved and moved. I left redirects in the NA and NB sections.
