So Adaptronic seems popular "down under" so I'm assuming it is well supported by tuners there?

Clutch/flywheel: Everytime i read some one talking about a lightweight flywheel and or aftermarket clutch i get anxious and can't wait to install mine. I have had a '04 SRT-4 and '01 Bullitt Mustang with a aftermarket clutch and lightweight flywheel and it makes a big difference.

Shifter: Hum i never had a issue with my Nardi evolution shift knob but mine screwed on...weird. A weighted shift knob really makes a difference, i have the Joyfast tall and love it. Have you considered getting a Miata Roadster short throw shifter kit? Namely the tall?

Interior is gorgeous Daniel! Keep the updates coming!
From what I understand these chipped ecus are pretty popular in Japan, they just go into a tuner, tell them roughly what mods they have, and they make flash a new setup into an EEPROM and solder that onto the stock ecu to overwrite some functions. But it's not popular anywhere else it seems. The amount of work and playing around with that outdated tuning method isn't viable for anyone these days. But it doesn't hurt to pick a used one off YJA, hoping its setup decent for i/h/e, and off you go, they're cheap enough.

You are right, the support for the adaptronic is plentiful down under, it seems to be the ecu of choice here. But how much difference it's going to make for me on a stock engine already using a chipped rom, i would guess is very minimal and any gain would've come through the removal of the afm. That's why I've just left it on hold. Really there is no point unless I do more work to the car power wise (and we all know how pointless that is on a 1.6).

Regarding the flywheel, as long as it's not too light. Like say <3.5kg/8 lbs.. The transition between acceleration and deceleration is just too violent for the street if it's too light imo.

Mine is not an oem nardi for mazda, I bought it new as a universal fitment model, so that may explain it.

    cheers

    Photos with Elise

The Elise was a driving buddy of my BRG. It's a more pure driving experience than the MX-5, there's no doubt about it. But which one would you live with everyday? My friend was very close to putting the Honda K20A in there, but it never happened and the Elise was sold.

    Random little stuff

Everyone's got their pole positions and i'm just sitting here with my oem mazda key

Classic washer jets The spray pattern is terrible but it looks the part which is all that matters.

Retro Modern billet oil cap Boy am I glad I bought one of these when they were in production. It is a piece of art.

I went though all the trouble of getting this valve cover sand blasted and painted, only to realize that the BP cover was diffferent to the B6. At least I can say it went to a good home in Quentins (MalibuQ) silver NA. I have a Familia B6T cover now which I'm just cleaning up getting ready to put in soon.

I was confused by the thread title. I couldn't figure out what model MX-5 you were referring to.

If you search ebay for 'chrome washer jets' there should be plenty of listings. I just bought mine from a local seller.

    Teinage Kicks

TEIN MONOSPORT ADJUSTABLE COILOVERS (F:10kg R:8kg)

No explanation needed for Tein products really. The monotube dampers are recommended by them for race/circuit only, but I have been using them for street and I love them. I leave them on the softest setting front and rear and it's perfectly compliant even on bumpy roads. There is more suspension travel than std and I would say they are on par with OEM in terms of comfort, if not a little better. Difference in body roll is night and day, but so is weight shifting front and rear from heavy braking (nose no longer dips). Would I recommend them to anyone? Certainly yes!

Running std swaybars still, roll rigidity is enough for me right now. Just used racing beat adj. swaybar end links so there would be no preload on swaybars after lowering.

From centre bore to fender I am at 12.5 inches all round.

    Hardtop crew

Jass Performance Hardtop Brackets (top + side)

Black and discreet. also pictured are the knobmeister visor plugs.

My oem latches were rattling all the time and because I always have the hardtop on I thought I would just replace them with brackets instead. Out of all the ones on the market I liked the quality and finish of the Jass performance ones the most. The biggest trouble was removing the oem latches at the top. The screw heads got threaded before I found out the trick to take them off - which was to use a mini butane torch to heat up the screw heads before trying to remove them. This is because there are 3 screws on each side (from memory) that have loctite blue on them. The side ones were easy to take off.

My assessment, well as someone else put it simply, it feels like the shoebox has a lid tightly on. I had this mod when the suspension was all std, and it did make a significant difference on stiffness especially on bumpy roads. I would recommend it to the hardtop4life crew for sure (I'm won't be part of that crew too much longer though as I'll be putting a soft top in sometime this year).

Some things you have to be careful of though are over tightening (as this can lead to the hardtop cracking), the front latches will require some adjustment from time to time, but overall the noise is much less (not completely gone), and as an added bonus, the old hardware weighed in at about 5kg - so there is some weight saving to be done although not significant.

    Bumper woes

Front bumper was already pretty bad when I got the car. Was faded out and had spider web cracks on the paint.

Then I made it worse. Ouch. It gave me an excuse though to find another bumper (found one cheap enough locally, wasn't in the best condition though but good enough)

Off it comes! Also took out the headlights and indicators too and modded them up.

There much better! Raybrigs too Except for the busted license plate and bracket

Which I did end up fixing everything eventually

    Copper Red NC enters

A few years ago whilst driving, I noticed another dark red MX5 ahead of the traffic. Keen to get near it so I could greet the driver, I pulled up next to him and realised it was my old high school friend whom I lost contact with a long time ago. To cut the story short, I am really grateful our MX5's were able to reunite us as we became really good friends.

Both our cars started off stock-ish with minimal mods. You could say both our cars grew up together in mods haha. His ended up being quite the beast, with a 2.5L Mazda6 engine tuned with cams and ecu, full suspension set up, i/h/e, bracing, brakes, two sets of wheels and Federal RS-RR tires for the track. It was VERY quick. There was a lot of effort and work we both put into that car as we modded together, drove together, and my MX-5 was happy to have a driving buddy.

So why am I talking about another car besides my own. Well my friend never did, he was never into the online forum thing, so no one knew about what a beast this car was, but it was, and my MX-5 and I were heartbroken to learn it was written off recently. So i guess this is a tribute to you - Betty the Copper Red NC who we will never see again.

I did make a vow to the heavens though that I would get him back into 'Roadster Life' as soon and as cheaply as possible (he think's he is over it, but who cares about how he feels what about how I feel).

If I ever committed to hard top latches, they'd be the Jass ones. So aesthetically pleasing for "just a piece of hardware"

    Hey guys

Apologies for my prolonged absence. Life and shit, you know...

Have done a few things since last time I updated (18 months ago), but she hasn't been driven much at all. Contemplated for a bit selling her but realised I was just too emotionally attached to it. So I thought I should persevere and finish her even if it takes me twenty years.

Power-wise I'm now running an adaptronic e40c ecu with innnovate mtxl wideband. It was tuned by a well known mx5 specialist in sydney and is running about 86rwkw (stock about 70rwkw). Mid and top range is much better than my corns ecu, but the car became pretty temperamental. She just wasn't as smooth as stock and had some issues. I've had to go back a few times to get the setting just right and it is mostly fine now but still wakes up hungover ocassionally.

So the afm has been removed but I'm still working out what to do with the intake since I think the length is too long. I wonder whether I should even bother at all modifying it since I still haven't fit the ae101 itbs and t3 manifold I bought around 2 years ago. And who knows when that will ever go on...

    cont...

So the ecu was around early last year and around the same time I got the 4pt roll bar fitted. I bought it used locally for bargain and it ended up being a 4pt carbing 40mm roll bar, with padding. It was in fairly good condition but had to get the support plates made up because it attaches through the floorpan and also through the rear parcel shelf into the boot rails. Luckily, it also can be used in conjunction with my beatrush tower brace which goes between the seatbelt towers.

It really made the mid section so much stiffer and I always why I didn't do it sooner because it really made me love the car even more. Combined with the hardtop latches I was very happy with the result. It could be barely seen through my hardtop because it had no diagonals and I loved the look of it. Definitely one of my favourite mods.

Anyway all that rigidity only lasted me a bit more than a year because early this year I decided not to renew my membership with the hardtop4life crew, and instead bought a soft top. Now I'm actually driving a convertible Although this is my second MX-5 this is the first time I've used it as an actual convertible so it's a big thing for me... so it requires big spending, and I opted to go with the Robbins tan cloth soft top w/ demister.

Now my main motivation for doing this was to go to the MX5 fan fest in Melbourne (about 10 hrs drive away from Sydney), and I wasn't going to do the trip with my other convertible friends in a hardtop. So before the end of last year I ordered it and got it fitted a day before the drive down. Top down finally!
