Thanks very much guys, I'm trying to keep it 'classy' ha!

I feel its very important to use the correct parts on this type of car, original Japanese parts is a must. I think we are extremely lucky to have so many little shops that still make parts for our cars, and if I can help keep them alive and make my car nicer in the process its win win.

Anyone that has purchased a set of Garage Vary tails recently will have noticed that they nice come with fibreglass covers that go inside the boot. I really like this addition, and think it really helps the look inside the boot. I always felt that the standard tail lights needed the back panel extending to cover the wiring. When I received my fibreglass covers I decided that I could make them look flasher, so I made some carbon versions

I thought some of you may appreciate this...

A few days after my Equips arrived my friends Ray's wheels arrived for his R34 Skyline too, so we got our wheel collection out on the grass.

I had a "box o' Zoom" arrive last night from Tomoyo san at Car Make Corn's.

Still waiting on a few more parcels to arrive from the land of the Roadster, exciting times!

The Zoom parcel contained a few little gifts from Tomoyo san at Corn's including this cute little NA, in black with a hard top to match my car

I am currently planning my honeymoon for November this year to Japan, and will definitely be stopping in at Corn's

My car goes in to the bodyshop on Monday, it will be nice to have the scratched roof repaired finally.

Next up, is my engine project.

About a year ago I brought a used 1.6 long nose engine to rebuild with the idea of turbo’ing it. I know that generally everyone just bolts on a turbo to their current engine, but I felt I wanted to have a fresh engine and know that it had the best chance of surviving. The new engine was not meant to be making massive power, but with reliability coming first. I drive this car every day so it needs to be reliable.

    Any way… pictures!

It was certainly a used engine when it arrived. I stripped it down and took the head, block and crank to my engineer, he lightly skimmed the block and head to clean the surfaces, diamond honed the bores, washed out all the galleries, and refreshed the head.

It then arrived back to me like one of the best lego kits ever. It was rebuilt with all genuine Mazda gaskets and seals, new Mazda oil pump and water pumps, ARP head, rod and mains bolts, ACL race bearings and new pistons rings.

I also rebuilt the hydraulic lifters.

I finished the engine build with a cam pulley cover that I made and powder coated the cam cover gloss black. I also went crazy with the ARP bolts on the cam cover, crank pulley, water pump pulley and thermostat housing.

Engine finished and stood next to my Classic Mini 1380cc Race engine

So is the Zoom starter button a pnp part?

I love the custom carbon fiber parts! You do something with cf for a living or?

Also would you mind providing the specs(size, length, etc) on the ARP hardware you used for the valve cover, etc.?

Great work so far sir, look forward to what else is to come!

Love it, another fan of the carbon bits ... it's the custom touches that really set this build apart from the rest

This. I'd like to know as well. I love the s2000 start button mod, but cant do wiring worth a damn even with Adam's great write up. And don't feel like moving the cigarette port sine I use it for charging. I'd much prefer the Zoom button if its pnp and reliable.

    Hey
Thanks very much guys, glad you all like the carbon bits. I run a little company in the UK making custom bits of carbon for people, so I make the pieces for myself in my spare time. I'v made quite a few pieces for it so far, like vent rings, pulley cover, gear selector trim ring, slam panel cover and cowling/scuttle panel.

Greasemonkey2000 The ARP bolts for the valve cover are ARP Kit # 770-1006 I got 2 of those. The middle 3 bolts needed shortening by a few mm though.

Im pretty sure the Zoom button is PNP, it certainly doesn't need any wiring and is totally reversible, I'll have more details when I fit it though.

The next step of the engine build was The turbo. I selected a Subaru TD04 because they are small enough to be on boost very early and capable of making over 200hp. I am aiming for around 170hp on a low psi.

I found a low millage second hand turbo and rebuilt it myself. The then had a manifold and down pipe made.

Since then I have had the manifold and exhaust housing ceramic coated to keep the temperatures down and keep things looking tidy.

The engine is currently wrapped up under my stairs waiting for when I feel brave enough to pull my current engine. I am still trying to decide what ECU to run, there is a company in the UK that have started making ECU's for MX-5's called Motorsport Electronics. The ECU board fits inside the OEM ECU case, and is very similar to the MS, but slightly cheaper and no Import costs.
