    EUNOS Roadster RS LTD restore

Thought is was about time I put up a thread for the MK1 RS I bought last summer and has been tucked up in the garage...
As the MK2 trackday car is now runnning well and not taking up so much of my time.

The plan is to restore and not leave a bolt untouched, with no rush to complete.... Especially after looking at Marks Merion BRG restore....

I found the car advertised on Facebook and jumped on it for a viewing pretty quickly as it was fairly local and still had the Recaro seats and 15" BBS wheels....

Some pics from when I got it...

Filling up at the garage on the way home

Tucked up in the garage... started a couple of times a month and left on a trickle charger

    Day 1

So armed with a pen/pad/tags/small plastic bags and a big cardboard I started stripping the interior...

    Seats removed

Interior attacked as I bagged everything and listed it

    All boxed up....

Looks like the gaiter will need replacing so this is added to the list if parts to buy (Gonna be a long long list)

Carpet from behind the seats removed - All lovely and bone dry band not a matted mess like some I have removed before

Last nights purchase from Vindi Russel
    Maruha Coilovers

So got to spend some time on the car today..... Plan was to take the dash out but I got a bit carried away...
Backed the car out into the driveway.... For a bit more space

After a wrestle with the dash it came out, main reason to remove as it had scratches on the top surface, so going to search for a replacement...

I'm still amazed how this car has never got wet inside, pic of the ECU cover panel and polystyrene filler..

As much as I could take out, need to sort the AC as I want to remove it, then reinstall...

    Boot stripped...

Front bumper off, surprisingly no bolts broke...
    And rad removed

Over the weekend I plan to remove rear bumper...
Then set about disconnection everything requires to pull the body off the rolling chassis...

Around a 30% of the car back in the garage, which will be stored in the attic until requires as I only have a single garage...

I'm going to keep the body under a tarp outside so will leave doors/roof on etc and then get the rolling chassis in the garage, to sort out...

    Thanks for reading Tom

Got an afternoon on working on the car...
With a garage full of bits I though it time to see what I can start cleaning/restoring....
Started with a good look at the blower.. Absolutely filthy with all the foam disintegrating on the flaps...
Pic of it on the bench

    Disassembled

All parts cleaned with a steam cleaner, and some diluted TFR.. Replaced the foam with some yoga mat foam that I saw on a Miata forum...

All assembled and looking clean! :-)

Just need to sort some foam for the top edge... Off to eBay I go....

Next up is the heater, a little bit more complicated but just as dirty...

    All disassembled...

To be continued of that one...

Next on to rad fans, fairly dirty so stripped down..

And the washer bottle full of gunk...

All clean... Steam cleaner to the rescue again...

Will reassemble tomorrow... And need to paint the rad fan housing ... As there's a fair bit of rust on it....

    Day 4

Got to grips with the interior, this is how it was left tonight..
Removed pedal box, and steering column...
The air con box I can remove yet as in don't have a large enough spanner to fit the A/C joint...

On to the engine bay, stripped out both headlights, the A/C rad, charcoal canister, bonnet latch and the clutch/brake master cylinders
Loom is all unclipped just need to pull in back through the bulkhead, all looks pretty good with no rust...

Next I took off the wings, no horrors underneath... Took the steam cleaner to it to clean up...

Garage in now filling up with parts fast!!

    Day 5
With a garage full of parts, thought it was time to get cracking in the evenings after work....
Found any bracket that I am planning to paint... Wire brushed them, used the drill wire wheel to remove paint/rust.
All painted with VHT satin paint....

Got the pedal assembly out of the box of bits, was rusty and dusty....

    More rust and dust

Took apart and sprayed satin black with VHT paint...
Much better and very happy with how the came out

Ordered some genuine pedal rubbers, the first of many new parts that have been ordered....

Next up the steering hanger beam, prepped and sprayed black...

    Thanks for reading....

This looks really really promising, and the pace you move is amazing! I would leave cleaning for the re-assembly phase, as parts tend to get dirty just by sitting there. Eager to see how this evolves, so keep the updates coming!

OCD-level 1000. I love it. Going to be like new.

That ECU cover and carpet pad is truly spotless... how many miles/km on this to start?

Got a few more days work to add...

So about a month tonight was time for plan separation....

Made up a wooden frame to hold the front end high enough to roll the roller skate out from underneath forwards into garage...
A trip to b and q and £30 on four lengths of timber and I was sorted... Bolted to the fence at the far side through the fence post for extra sturdyness...

Rolled forward heading to the garage...

    Left with the body...

And that roller skate in the garage...

Time for some more stripping.... And fun...
Not bad for a couple of hours work... On my own... :-/

    Weekend update...

A pile of parts, awaiting attention
Rollerskate completely stripped, with wishbones off subframe etc

Engine on the hoist waiting to be put on a stand when I get one in the week...

Made a start on the carriers, stripped all the rubbers and pins out ready for rust removal...
Plus pulled out the bushes out of the upper rear wishbones

Making good progress... But still a long long way to go!!!

That time again for a little bit of an update….

So got a fair bit going on,

    Subframes and Wishbones
Subframes are stripped of wishbones, and 80% of the bushes are out of the wishbones, I didn’t resort to fire to remove them, but have got through many broken/stripped lengths of M10 threaded bar (8.8 Grade) and cracked my cheap Clarke vice in the process, The remaining ones are with a friend from work for him to press out for me, he’s also going to press out the driveshafts from the hub.

    Electrolysis Bath
Put together electrolysis bath from Hammys guide to start rust removal on parts, so far 2 brake carriers have been bathed, and wire brushed with good results.
Got plenty of other parts to go through this bath now I know it works with good results…..

    Engine
Engine is now up on a stand (cheers for the help Ross) and is now had some parts removed) and a parts washer purchase for a bit of cleaning….

Some pics from last night strip down… Ross on the end of the camera as my phone has taken a tumble and is *******….

    Bit of labelling and organising

    Wrestling the exhaust cam/CAS out

    HLA’s out

Head off – Where the explosions happen!!!

    Underside of the head

Next step is to decide if to dismantle the head and get a skim (probably no need)

Wishbones will hopefully be back from my mate early next week then I’ll get them off to the powder coaters to smarten them up….. Got a fairly big box that needs shotblast attention!

Tonight I picked up some parts from the soda blasters... Results look good, very happy...

Had the sump, gearbox, inlet manifold and cam cover done plus a couple of other odds and soda

Let the pics do the talking...

So it been a busy Christmas for me, not on the MK1 though may I add.
Managed to get a couple of hours in this evening and started to strip the cylinder head...

Put together a couple of slides to get quotes together for the suspension components coating....

If anyone want a copy of them for quoting purposes PM me and I email them over...

Mark (Totally MX5 repair) hope you don't mind me using your photos of mei's beast....
