I had a bit of time to get things started on the interior. It was a bear taking out a few seats bolts, and dealing with some inconvenient alarm system wiring.

I took advantage of the beautiful weather today to refinish the M2 1028 console that I have. It was originally covered in sticky black paint, similar to the NA6 dash tops. I had to strip it, and fill in some divots around the vents holes (someone previously tried to pry out the vents with a small screw driver). I sprayed it with SEM satin black. I could not be happier with the results. Undecided about putting the original shift pattern decal on the lower right corner, like it came from M2.

If you are going to use a shift knob with the pattern, skip the sticker. Otherwise, I'd use the sticker. That's how they came from Mazda.

Put the shift pattern in the lower LEFT if you're doing a LHD car. =)

Even LHD cars had the sticker on the right side. Here you can see the original sticker on the original console of my '92 SE. This car came with the Nardi wood shift knob, so it got the sticker.

Once again I am taking advantage of some down time.
I painted an AWD stainless gauge cover panel with black wrinkle paint.
I then test fit Adam's (Revlimiter's) gauge lenses into my RS Refine gauge rings, and then put everything together. I like the results.
I have not had time to fit things to my gauge cluster, but I am hoping it will all gel nicely.

Technically, a 1028 is supposed to have a standard cover panel, but since the 1001 and 1002 models have gauge rings, I figure it does not stray too far from my original theme's intentions.
