    MATG XXI- 03-06 August 2017

Okay, some might say this is too early but as I am finally going to get to attend, I figured why not get this party started? Not only that but (as of now) I have convinced my lovely wife to come with me. We'll see how much her head spins with four days of being around Miata enthusiasts.

You know, it's surprisingly easy to not see as many Miatas as you'd think you'd see at MATG unless you make a conscious effort to do so. Yeah, you're still going to see plenty, but if ya don't stop in at Fontana, or participate in the dam photo, and instead just drive and enjoy the roads, you're going to see significantly less Miatas.

Which I can't state it enough, drive the roads in the mornings and after 6pm. And anytime in between, but the morning and after 6pm are prime driving times. Far less traffic and the local LEOs are either in far fewer numbers or non-existent. I'd also suggest a day before and/or a day after the event. Especially the day after, that Monday has way less traffic.

Oh, and do not be ashamed to pull off for faster traffic. Though, it seems several Harley riders are... or are just assholes.

If I remember correctly the MATG is going to move a week before, or later this year. I believe it is due to Fontana and the room rate.?.

Hope to see all of you there! After 'Palooza, of course!

I haven't been up there since the fires, so I'm curious how it looks. Also hoping for manageable rains for the area, I've seen horrible landslides following big wildfires.

The best roads up there aren't discussed much. It's far more fun to get lost and try to find your way back, staying off the mains.

The standout roads are borderline secret, you have to go find them by Free Bird cues. That makes it a little more fun in my opinion. It adds to the adventure, you just have to stuff as much fuel in the cars as possible and go drive.

I'm taking a solo trip to the Waynesville area this weekend, for the first time I will be running my own adventure rather than being in a convoy. I'll keep the dash cam rolling.

If you are talking about the roads North and slightly east of me want to shake hands? No road numbers given. But they have those lovely "Trucks do not use" signage.

Ahhhgggg! You are giving routes not on PM! LOL I'm heading toward Stuart. For the dive off 8 onto Va. 40 and then the next truckers warning. Cannot remember that route number. Just know ' see sign, turn wheel'!

Peace fellow nut! If you have a free week-end let's run some!

We're not staying at any of the big places. There will also be some romancing going on in the evening with my wife so no bad-mannered people allowed.

Hey, I know it's a long day to drive up from FL, but if you detour to 400/19 on the north side of ATL, you can take part of the Suches Loop, around Blood Mountain to just south of Murphy, NC. It's aka "Georgia's Dragon".

Let me know if you have questions. The 400/19 is near me. Beginning off I-285, it's 4-6 lanes in either direction then narrows to two when you get past the ATL 'burbs. It's a fun drive and nice way to limber up before getting to DG.
