03-16-18: A few weeks ago this happened....

.....broke one of the horn buttons off when carrying too much stuff into the house. I literally spent 30+ minutes trying to find it...to no avail. So the solution? K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid).....

...remove the other one! The red button actually pops of but the cone that it attaches to had to be cut off and then some to get them to be approximately the same height. Long term plan is refinish the steering wheel and will replace the horn buttons with something with a lower profile.

I also got a hold of some polishing pads and orbital sander from a buddy, always great to have great people willing to help you out! He gave me 1500, 2000 and 3000 grit polishing/sanding pads. Last time I stopped at 1500 so ya that was a mistake.

I quickly realized doing it by hand was a MISTAKE! A orbital sander was the way to go for sure. It looked so much more even as I sanded the lights. Just a Harbor Freight 4" orbital sander. I have a 4" sander but it just vibrates, it doesn't rotate...not sure what it is called.

Here is how they looked from my previous attempt and stopping at 1500 and then using a polishing compound. (Turtle Wax, light/medium)

Then after using the 1500, 2000 and 3000 grit pads.

    What a difference!

Finally after using the Turtle Wax polishing compound(light/medium).

The close up is of the drive side as it was 'perfectly clear' before i messed with it, i just wanted them to have the same clarity. Really happy with the results! Not brand new clear but for headlights that are 17+ years old, i am very pleased with the out come.

Nothing new to update BUT I did order a eBay PDR kit to try and get out Misfire's hood 'dimple'. Should be here tomorrow.

@Bryan: It will replaced with a single din unit. When that happens, it is yours if you want it....real good price too, free. It has usb port and Bluetooth capability.

Finish it up with this and it'll be crystal clear and protected. Also, have a UV light handy.

What's the light for? To tell you if/where you missed a spot?

It is a UV curing paint, not heat.

03-31-18: A fellow enthusiast, Ben aka concealer404, reached out to me after seeing my post about putting the amber vinyl on Misfire's NB2 taillights and offered to trade his NB1 taillights. I of course took him up on his offer and i received them yesterday and decided to swap them today after giving Misfire a much deserved bath.

Here are the NB1 lights as received....

....they were in pretty good shape minus for a small chip on the amber section of the passenger side. I decided to go ahead and take them thru the same process as i did with Misfire's headlights a few weeks ago. I used a orbital sander with 1500, 2000 and 3000 sanding pads. I then used a light/medium polishing compound and finally some carnuba wax. Here is the driver side before...

    ...and after.

Honestly it is hard to tell a difference in the picture but if you look just below the amber section you can see raised lettering in the before picture. In person the difference is much more noticeable. I did get most the chip damage on the passenger off but didn't want to keep going as i was afraid of a crack developing if i went to deep and the plastic got too thin.

As you can see the amber color is that much deeper which is exactly what i wanted, I am very happy with the outcome. I am going to make the taillights even better by doing this in time:

Just before finishing up, Misfire and I made a new friend...

...handsome fellow and very friendly. Hope he gets home safely.

He was just roaming the neighborhood with a Chihuahua(which I see on a regular basis), apparently I am biased as the Chihuahua didn't make the cut.

04-12-18: Decided to give Misfire some attention and do something i have been wanting to do since i installed the Datatool LED Revlight. Move it from the steering column....

....to some where more in the line of site when driving, like here....

    ...see it? How about now?

I REALLY like the concept/placement but the execution is far from perfect as you can see in the pics...the plastic still has lots of 'burs'. I used a drill bit to make the holes after placing painters tape, measuring the distance between each LED(0.18") and marking accordingly.

Originally i was going to use a soldering iron to burn thru the plastic as i have found this is the easiest way to make round holes in plastic with out all the 'burs' but i couldn't find my old on. May have to pick up a Harbor Freight soldering iron and another gauge hood and giving it another shot.
