06-25-17: I received some parts a few weeks ago, namely a set of Carbon Miata's tinted vented windows(unfortunately the passenger side frame of the Carbon Miata tinted window was damaged in transit but Marc said the other day a replacement will be on its way shortly), a Works Bell 75mm hub and NRG carbon fiber 'Fatboy" shift knob.

I had been meaning to install the parts but with my new job I just don't have the time I use to for such things. This weekend was the plan to get them installed but it has been raining off and on and since the garage is being occupied by a broke down Mustang, I am at the mercy of nature.

I did however manage to get to install the Works Bell 75mm hub and NRG shift knob. The reason for the hub change is because the Circuit Sports 55mm hub isn't PNP with the clockspring and it had to be removed and I couldn't figure out how to get the horn to function.

The other reason is because the Circuit Sports 55mm short hub, Circuit Sports 23.5mm quick release with the 310mm Sparco Extreme 2 steering wheel made it to where my arms were more or less fully extended with just a slight bend in my elbows. My previous NRG short hub, NRG 2.0 quick release was a total of around 4"/101mm so this setup is still about 0.7"/17.5mm shorter but the extra 20mm/0.8" gained with the Works Bell hub should be just right.

Here are said parts jus waiting to get installed.

The previous setup with the Circuit Sports 55mm hub, Circuit Sports 23.5mm quick release and 310mm Sparco Extreme 2 steering wheel...

....and with the new Works Bell 75mm, Circuit Sports 23.5mm quick release and 310mm Sparco Extreme 2 steering wheel.

Just from sitting it seems like the extra 20mm/0.8" is perfect. Then the OEM shift knob was removed...

...and replaced with the NRG carbon fiber 'Fatboy" shift knob...

....it is universal and comes with inserts and spacers to make it work with various different applications. The knob itself is three pieces with a top that screws on the main lower portion and then a plastic inner piece that the adapter goes into.

In all honesty it is a much better design then expected and it looks very close to the older Mazdaspeed carbon fiber shift knobs but this only cost me $20 new where as the Mazdaspeed pieces used still go for $150-$180 on average. The black chrome and carbon fiber with the insert(this will get replaced with a custom Revlimiter insert in time) is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks to Ly aka aarrow from Pann Auto for these two parts!

Looks good! And I like the cf/kevlar surround, it fits the theme.

It will be coming off. It is faded and I MIGHT replace it with a real cf trim kit if I can find a good kit.

08-14-17: FINALLY got the time to install a few parts I have had for a month or two. First up is the most part I acquired from RetroModern....

    http://retromodernusa.com/?product=r...iata-roadsters

...a aluminum hazard collar! I always admired pieces from RetroModern but many pieces are no longer made or only made in batches and not always in stock so when he(Steve, iirc) announced on InstaGram these were in stock I jumped on it.

It simply installs with a piece of 3m double sided tape that is already supplied and applied to the collar. It is a vast improvement over the faded carbon Kevlar piece it replaced as seen here.

...and after removing the carbon Kevlar trim and cleaning the OEM hazard switch surround, I installed the RetroModern collar...

SO MUCH BETTER! In my humble opinion. I know that some(many?) of you might say that really doesn't go with the current interior state, namely the carbon Kevlar trim but that will be coming off soon enough. I just was short on time given the next part I was going to install.

The next part was one that I have been really excited to watch it develop from conception to prototype(had the opportunity to test fit on Warbird and give feedback on fitment and needed adjustments) and finally a final production piece and that is Carbon Miata's vented windows! I opted for the tinted version because Texas is HOT!

I received them at the end of June but my new job doesn't give me the free time that my previous job gave me and it is hot and my garage is being taken up by a broke down Mustang. Here are the Carbon Miata tinted vent windows....

    https://www.carbonmiata.com/shop/maz...ow-vents-pair/

...unfortunately the passenger side vent window frame was cracked in its journey from China to Texas so Marc is going to send me a replacement. Which means I only have one to install, that is the up side.

Replacing the triangle windows isn't that difficult but the first time I did it on Warbird when installing a Project G vented window I think it took me....maybe an hour and a half. Basically you have to remove the door panel, window and finally the triangle window.

I used this guide from jnshk, http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/86-...e-windows.html , so big thanks to him because even this time around I had to refresh my memory but it is pretty straight forward.

On to the comparison pictures. Here is the OEM triangle window in all its OEM glory....

....Carbon Miata tinted vent window installed...

...and a few more comparison pics.

Finally some pictures of the Carbon Miata tinted vent windows fully opened.

One thing that should be disclosed is that when I initially installed the vent window it would only open till it hit the windshield frame door seal, if the door was shut. Sure you could it open it all the way but then when you shut the door but it would be jammed up against the windshield frame door seal and you couldn't close it w/o opening the door. Obviously that isn't good.

My solution was to simply remove some material from the upper top edge of the vent window as there was still plenty of overlap of it and the vent window frame from what I could tell. Since doing this I have contacted two other people with the vent windows(one NA, one NB) and both said theirs interfered with the door seal. At this point I'm not sure if that was the intended stop point or what. I have reached out to Marc but haven't heard back from him.

I will be doing a install guide and full review but till then I would first like to thank Marc for taking on a project that others have tried but never made it to production. There is a lot that clearly went into designing it and some nice features. It has two 'locks', one on top and one on the side that has magnetic tips to hold them when closed and open. The pivot arm for the window as a knob that you can tighten down to keep it in the open position of your choice. If I hadn't removed the material I did(1/16" or more, iirc) then it would only open about half of what it currently does.

So how effective is it? Well even at city speeds(30mph) it moves a noticeable amount of air with the top down, windows down and the vent window all the way open. At highway speeds(60+mph) it is that much more noticeable, in fact most would probably not want it all the way open at highway speeds. I haven't drove with it in any other configuration as of yet. Will follow up once I have more feedback!

08-24-17: Just decided to post some pics of some parts I have received. First one that I bought from twisties, thanks again good sir! Something to make the m45 scream a bit more....

....a used Track Dog Racing 62.5mm supercharger pulley! Now Misfire already has the Track Dog Racing 150mm crank overlay so this will over spin the m45 past its recommended redline of 14,760 RPM to 17,280 RPM if you wind out the motor to its factory engine redline of 7200 RPM.

So you can either 'worry' about such things and keep the engine RPM below 6200 or drive it like you stole it! This will not be going on anytime soon, in fact I actually bought it just a few weeks after buying Misfire and it has just sat and will continue to do so until some maintenance is done as well as getting a boost and wideband gauge among other things.

The next item I have been on the hunt for since I bought Misfire and 'want to buy' listings on multiple Miata forums turned up nothing but after some inquiring to Adam aka Revlimiter and George I was able to secure these thru the maker.....

....Garage5 NB independent gauge rings!! These are GORGEOUS! Yup one picture isn't sufficient...

    .....look at that depth!!

My pictures DO NOT do them justice! Big thanks to George with Garage5 because these are not currently being made and the 3+ months of looking turned up nothing. Of course these will not be getting used any time soon either, why?

Because they are too nice to go on the ugly, aftermarket gauges currently on Misfire. No these deserve some custom Revlimiter gauges and will get them along with some Revlimiter anti glare glass made for the Garage5 rings and a very trick custom carbon fiber gauge surround that Jacey aka shiz aka daricerocket is making currently. Besides that a few other touches and possibly another custom part may be in the works for it.

To say I am excited about this gauge cluster is a under statement and I still have yet to get to work on ideas for the custom Revlimiter gauges, which will be based on one of Adam's standard sets.

I agree. Too nice for stock gauges. You need Rev's touch. If your car ever catches fire however, you must commit to saving that cluster before your own life.

@AgentOrange: Couldn't agree more! This cluster WILL definitely be worth a 'sacrificial lamb' for its greatness to continue and bless the mortals of the Miata realm.

08-25-2017: Let the de-rice-ification (yup just made it a word) of Misfire's interior commence in 3, 2, 1....

(I know I need to clean Misfire's interior, shame on me and yes I realized the driver side foot well light was hanging out...after taking the pics)

...and after about 90+ minutes to remove all 11 pieces that were present(still one/two pieces left on the passenger side air bag switch that is tucked up on the passenger side), Misfire's interior was looking much better. A little tip for anyone trying to remove a vinyl trim kit similar to this one: Use a thin tip flat tip screw driver and gently pry a corner/edge until you can firmly grab it and the continually apply pressure as you pull the trim off, while using the flat tip screw driver(or plastic pry tool would be better) to help the adhesive backing come off.

If you do it like the then MOST of it will come off, especially the bigger pieces with not much to finish cleaning off. At first I tried heating the trim before peeling and it made a bigger mess, at least the way I was doing it. Then just use some Goo Gone or similar to remove the remaining residue. I also removed the arm pad because it was crooked and looked stupid, imo.

It is crazy how much better shape Warbird's interior was in considering it was four yeas older but I really think Misfire may have sat and that always make a car 'age' much faster.

Sitting outside for long periods of time (months to years) is one of the worst things that can happen/be done to a car. The sun and elements are not kind to cars when they sit for a long while.

Looking forward to the gauges build.

09-09-17: Was going to change the oil in Misfire today given the very nice weather we have been having in central Texas the past week but I got side tracked by that chrome fuel lid that I never liked.

Chrome isn't going to work on Misfire and I was thinking about getting another Zoom Engineering Race fuel lid but I figured....while very attractive I have 'been there and done that'.

So I thought I might try improving upon the decent design of the chrome fuel lid and simply improve the finish. So I started with this chrome fuel lid, that appears to be from Moss Miata....

...and ended up with this after about an hour of using a red scotch brite pad.

Not a HUGE difference but enough of the 'bling factor' has been knocked down to satisfy me for the time being. According to Moss Miata the lid is a chrome plated alloy, so I might inquire to see what kind of metal it is and if it is aluminum then may try to completely removing the chrome finish.

You may or may not notice but while I was at it I did the OEM striker plates and bolts. Here is a comparison of the OEM chrome plate finish vs the brush finish:

Again just enough of a difference, imo. Again these appear to have a similar chrome plate finish as the fuel door so I was careful not to go crazy as I don't know what kind of metal these are.

I also decided to remove the bolts on the fuel door to shave the markings off. They started out like so...

...and after some angle grinder action ended up like this.

Despite my poor photography skillz you might notice some discoloration which was accidental at first but then I decided to do them all like that as it gave them that neat heated titanium look, which you can see better here:

Overall for two hours of my time and zero out of pocket expense, as I had everything on hand, I am very satisfied with the results...BUT I have two other touches that I am plan on doing to the fuel lid that I think will make it look fantastic!

I like the changes, but the bolts unless stainless they will rust really soon. Guess you can buy actual titanium bolts off eBay for cheap as well
