This car continues to disappoint me.

Now something's wrong with the throttle.

Yesterday, my way home from a drive, I floored it, then realized the engine wasn't backing off (aka throttle was stuck). Got it to reset itself, then drove the last two miles home. Got in the car today and started it up, sure enough, engine starts revving even with my foot off the pedal. Take off the intake tube and find out that the throttle is stuck part open. Working the pedal, it feels like something's broken, but I can't tell where.

One weird thing...the throttle linkage on my car appears to have been manually pinched together. Because of that, the cable can't come back to rest in the cable guide, so it looks like it does in the third picture which, surprise surprise, leaves the throttle partially open even when I'm not pressing on the pedal.

It turns out the "snap" sound I kept hearing once I pressed the pedal down a certain amount was the cable snapping out of the pinch a the throttle linkage. Not sure if this is the whole problem or not, but it seems very odd.

I used a screwdriver to spread the two sides of the linkage guide and all is well. What's really bothering me now is WHY THE F*** would someone do that, and who?

    That is WEIRD.

You can see the jaw marks on the throttle cam where it was pinched .

Yep. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that they probably did that when they tried to get the throttle cable out so they could drop the motor for the oil pan re-seal job. Super lazy, and not the only f-up I've found on this car.

That sucks, but thankfully you figured it out quickly and it was an easy fix. Things like these are why I very much prefer to work on my own car whenever I can.

The irony is that, were I to need the oil pan resealed (and I'd figured it out on my own), I'd have farmed it out anyway because I don't have the tools or the space (much less time) to do that kind of job.

    The Long Road Back

I am getting the impression the mechanic who performed your work was not very experienced. As if this was a job they gave to a junior.

    Bingo.

I sent them a note with the pictures and reminded them that this is the second potentially dangerous miss that happened while the car was in the shop (first being there empty clutch hydraulics. I expressed my severe disappointment as politely as I could, because now I'm worried what other corners got cut.

After two days, I finally heard back. They're basically saying they don't know why anyone would have done it and insistent that it wasn't done by them. I pointed out several reasons why I wouldn't have and also explained how it mysteriously wasn't an issue for a couple weeks (i.e. I was still breaking in the clutch and seldom floor it, and would never have known until I did).

Screw em. They've more than lost my business at this point, and anyone who asks me as well.

With the throttle cable pinched like that, this is what the throttle looked like:

Very unfortunate, Bryan. Hopefully this is the last of their "sanfu's".

Having had my fair share of experience with shops(probably less than most as for the most part I have worked on my own cars when ever possible for the last 20 yrs of driving) and having had worked at a reputable Posche garage I can tell that weird stuff can happen that is some times pure coincidence but obviously if something was damaged visibly that one knows wasn't there before.

Many times a reputable shop is at the mercy of their mechanics who may be consistently dishonest or makes a mistake on occasion but doesn't own up to it and obviously they are going to back their mechanics until they have reason not to.

This is their last snafu. They refused to own up to either one. I'm done with them.

In other news, I need to figure out the driveline and body creaks I've been getting. I suspect the PPF bolts need tightening and perhaps some of the bolts on my roll bar have backed out a little. I'm noticing the worst noises as the car shifts coming out of my driveway (have to back out at an angle) and when pulling away from a stop. I'm thinking it might be two unrelated problems.
