It started making a horrible squeal every time I would engage. Last time I remember that happening, the bearing had seized, and when I finally did the clutch change, found that the bearing had several mm actually worn off of the metal engagement surface.

Fired up the car today for the first time. Worked like a champ

Need to iron out clutch stuff. Looking at doing 1.6L sized gear. Honestly thinking 1.6L OEM (Exedy) should be fine plus a lightweight flywheel. I ran 1.6 gear on my old NA and LOVED it.

It should be fine at OEM power levels, but it also has a smaller effective radius=torque capacity, which may be a problem if you increase power at some stage. Since you are already shopping for a flywheel, I would go for a 1.8 clutch. Pricewise they should be on the same ballpark plus 1.8 gear is more widely available in US (only early NAs were 1.6)

On my old NA, I'd done a SPEC Stage II so power wasn't an issue. That said, I do have an offer of $225 on a 1.8 BNIB ACT ProLite, so maybe going 1.8 would be better here. Maybe just pair that with an Exedy 1.8 clutch. I honestly don't plan to open this thing up unless something goes wrong again, nor do I plan on even doing so much as upgrading the exhaust. Aside from suspension, I want this car to be mostly stock.

Yeah, that price is good, and Exedy OEM replacement clutches are cheap and known good quality units.

It's what I had on the car when I replaced the original clutch. Honestly, the only problem with it was the bearings, near as I can tell.
