Got the kiddos to help me prep the car for its winter nap today

The more I look at that picture, the more absolutely miniscule the OEM brake setup looks...

Same calipers used in Spec Miata, car is light. When I did brakes when I first got mine, I asked my neighbor for advice, he being SCCA CFR Spec Miata champion. He said stock calipers. I did rebuilt calipers, slotted rotors, Porterfield R4S pads, stainless lines and FM master cylinder brace. Daily driven and once a year, MATG. You've got a few months to ruminate. Aloha.

Oh yeah, I know the stock stuff is fine for the car at stock power. It's just funny how tiny it looks compared to, say, a modern 911 GT3 RS, whose brake discs are nearly the same diameter as my wheels at just under 15".

Light cars can use small brakes which in turn contribute to lightness. Main reason why added weight puts you in a vicious cycle of adding more weight.

I get it. Just saying it looks laughably small compared to more modern sports cars (and yes, I know why they have bigger brakes, as well).

    New stuff...

Car is on the ground with help from the kiddos. They assisted me in lubing the slider pins at all four corners, then mounting the wheels. I opted for Roadstersport 3mm spacers and closed-end lug nuts from Good-Win. I'm glad that I got rid of the spline drive adapter, but disappointed to find that the nuts are thick enough in circumference that an impact socket can't fit over them. A normal 19mm socket will fit, but using an impact on them is a bad idea. Just as well, I guess, because I normally prefer to break them lose and torque them down by hand.

3mm isn't much, but A.) I didn't have to worry about going to extended lugs and B.) it moved the wheels just far enough out of the wheel well for my tastes:

It's subtle, but there's a definite difference to my eyes.

The weather has sucked around here lately, but last night was warm enough that I went for a ride. Found a street nearby that was oddly both well-lit and not busy (aside from the police cruiser that must've made 3-4 passes).

Three mm seems fine to my eyes. It's like how a 1-inch drop looks pretty dramatic even though it's just an inch. Personally, I'm not a fan of changing the steering geometry too much but you were conservative. Lookin good on the street!
