    I did a thing.

Yeah. I was shopping NC2s a few months ago. The 128i was a car I always liked, and the pricing was better. I think the 128 lost value so much because the 135 can be problematic and BMW was using goofy Big 3-style financing options back then.

The 128 is a lot of car for the money.

When I had my e30, I went to a dyno day. There were a LOT of 135s there making 400-600hp with bolt ons and a tune. It was nuts.

I just don’t need that kind of crazy in my life, but I’ll take some sweet, naturally-aspirated in-line 6 cylinder anytime.

Yeah, the turbo part is not appealing. A nice little inline n/a coupe certainly is.

This one for sale in my hometown (on the other end of Ohio) is the only Manual I can find within 300mi of me.

    I did a thing.

That one isn’t a manual. That is the trick, and I discussed it with other owners, the ads mislabel a LOT of cars as manuals just because it has flappy paddles. It’s not just the 1 series or BMWs. A lot of cars with manumatic transmissions are labeled as manuals by dealers.

The only way to confirm is to look at the pictures or run a VIN decoder.

There is a BIG difference in DCT-style transmissions and manumatic-style transmissions. Even some 8-10 speed autos aren’t as responsive as others. It’s all in the programming and algorithms.

    It’s frustrating and tedious.

Good point. It was the only ad even listed as a manual, but does suggest that you'd have to read through every ad to be sure. Ugh. Glad I'm not in the market.

    I did a thing.

Been having some brake weirdness. I took the brakes apart to clean the slides, look at the pads, and look for issues.

    https://youtu.be/l7hY9hvqhwE

The FR caliper is sticking intermittently. Pads on that corner had 1/2 the material as the FL, also signs of uneven wear.

Time to decide if I R&R that caliper, front pads and rotors, or upgrade.

    I did a thing.

I considered moving up to Wilwood fronts with ND 11” rotors, but that will probably be an upgrade for a future project. At ~$600, I think it’s a steal, but I have concerns about replacement calipers if I’m out of state and participating in HPDE.

Stock stuff I can get same or next day, so I went back to the well with a Centric remanufactured caliper, their C-Tek rotors and Powerstop Trackday Spec pads (p/n PSA-635). I have been using these for daily driving and light-medium track use for a few years now and I have been happy with them. I also got another bottle of Motul RBF 660 to flush the system. $190 altogether( after core return).

I jam through this stuff in about an hour. I’m currently writing this post while waiting for my wife to help me bleed the system.

The right caliper was definitely FUBAR. Here are the front left pads showing nice, even wear:

    And the right pads:

    Side by side:

    No bueno.

Flushed and bled all four corners, had enough the flush out the clutch hydraulics too.

Then off to bed the pads to the new rotors.

I have a trackday next weekend at Atlanta Motorsports Park. It is our inaugural “iron man” event; HPDE, wet skidpad, karting challenges all at one facility on the same day. Should be a riot!

Because I’m going to beat on those brakes like they owe me money.

Be thankful your wife helps you with bleeding. Mine always complains that her legs can't handle it, I gave up long ago and just get one of my sons to help me.

    I did a thing.

I didn’t feel like turning on the compressor to use the pressure bleeder. It was a nice day. She gets tired too, so I make sure to move quick when she has to hold the pedals down.

Oh, ok...I thought something had gone wrong with the job, that's all. There are LOTS of times I've wanted to flip the bird to different parts of the car once I have parts in place.

You should see my latest post for an example of parts I would flip the finger to (if my son were not standing there with ratchet in hand).

Well, on one hand I can understand the need for restraint. On the other hand learning to swear from your father seems as natural a car-related activity should be...?

I'd rather wait until he's a little bit older, lol. Even his more...ghetto friends aren't cursing...yet.
