Ah, Kostas. I know this guy since his car was bone stock (2007?), as well as the shop that carried out the conversion. It was not even remotely close as easy as it would seem, mostly due to the parts availability and bureaucratic procedures involved to have parts shipped overseas and imported. Well worth the hassle though, would 100% do it if it could be registered/road legal.

P.S. Are we trying to talk Patrick out of the Rocketeer conversion?

Not really, was just giving him food for thought. Ive been kicking around this V6 swap as well, just dont have to time with kids work etc to complete this on my own. That sound is pretty killer, when Shandelle brings these V6 cars out to local meets even non-Miata owners come running over to see what the hell is under the hood of these tiny tic-tac cars. Id like likey have to pay someone to do this swap as there is no freetime for me.

Harry, do you know if Kostas is still planning to run 15" wheels? It looked like he had Watanabe wheels on there. Just wondering what size he is using. I have those SSR 15x8 wheels I was planning to restore and wondering if they would work with bigger brakes like the stoptech he is using.

Last time we talked, 15". Car was on 13"s before the engine swap, running a Wilwood "small big brake kit" on the front with an approx. 200hp turbo 1.6 under the hood. The reason he moved to 15"s was brakes. It really depends on the specific wheel/brake combo though.

I wonder if that V8 Roadster LFX located in Tennessee is still for sale? That had everything done to it. That would be a heck, no that would be a hell of car to buy!!

State-side it makes sense that you guys use an engine that's easy to source - that Chevy motor makes sense.

Here in the UK people either use the 3.0L V6 from a Jaguar S-Type, go figure... The other popular choice is either the KLDE or KLZE motors from the MX3/MX6. Definitely a solid option for those who want to lift the hood and see "mazda" printed on their valve covers..
You want a good car. I want a good miata.

Interesting read. If a camaro engine is easily sourced and it is actually cheaper it could be a serious option.

Thanks for posting those! I had watched the first one earlier this year and forgot to check back for updates.

There are a couple LFx Miatas here in Atlanta, and I would go that route if I did a swap. I just like the size, engineering and power delivery of a compact, modern v6 making 300hp versus a 400+ hp V8. It seems like a better “driver’s engine” that better matches these cars.
