Gravity cast vs low pressure cast. Watanabe is a boutique manufacturer by scale.
yeah wheels are made the old school way, gonna get casting defects for sure. they are hand finished, unlike a lot of more modern wheel manufacturers.
Sell them to me if you don't want them![]()

I recently picked up some Watanabe Rs and they have a very good finish.

My set wasnt smooth, but I didnt have any issues with their performance. Mine were magnesium with a dark finish.
If they are sand cast molded, its a good finish for that process. If its a die cast, some of the imperfections are likely from a hand-poured crucible.
Possibly counterfeit.There are lots around, and some are convincing. This is different from copies. The counterfeits will copy the casting marks. They usually miss the correct markings found on the mounting face, and the silvery inspection sticker that is fitted.
