Having fun with interior - HVAC knobs and switches questions

Working on my car's interior. Lots of small projects - perfect for this stage of life.

I'm looking for knobs like/similar to Pfunk's build for my HVAC - preferably in pure stainless

Does anyone know of a source for these?

Also, I know the power window switches need ~30A dpdt switches (allegedly also possible with 20-25A)...but the other switches...such as A/C and defroster on/off...what type of toggle switch would these guys need? I'm not electrically inclined, but assume these would be simple on/off toggles.

I think that's it for now.

I know the owner of that car. IIRC, when he had Nakamae do the bespoke interior, they custom printed the panel to mark the switches.

Some may be momentary, others pole’d (?)

I THINK I may have found some knobs. At this point the next question would be - is attaching them to the current HVAC "male ends" just by making sure the ID of the knob is big enough, and utilizing a set screw to hold it down?

And without having to go and make a new thread (maybe I should) - anyone know a good source or ebay experience with black carpet that matches the texture of the carpet found in an NB1/2? Or is it just cut-pile nylon? I know they have different densities, and was wondering if anyone knew of a "good match" already. I'm looking to cover the entire transmission tunnel from the gas/trunk lever all the way to the firewall. So probably 2 yards of length to have extra?

You will need to bond them somehow. The OEM HVAC knobs have a square pocket in order to be able to grab on square stubs. I am making my own too (since a year now ) and it takes some practice to get everything right, but worth it IMO

Ah, sounds good. That's the path I was thinking of going, unless I was missing some blatant terminology that would help me find a knurled knob with a square pocket.

Any thoughts on the carpet bits?

The knob might be easier machined with a hollow cavity on back and that cavity filled with a 3d printed plug with the square recess in that.

As for the carpet, would there be enough material in a parcel shelf cover? It’s semi-moulded but you may be able to flatten it with a heat gun.

Even nicer - on the plug idea. It was either that or casting in some epoxy with some mold release on a square pin inserted.

As far as the carpet - I've seen the rear parcel used for tunnel covers that run from the radio to the back. But I'm wanting/needing it to go all the way to the firewall since I'm chopping chopping.

I can tell you the NB carpet is t_h_i_n stuff. The aftermarket version I installed was easily 2-3x thicker, including the backing. It may not be too difficult to find, but I think doing that in a material matching the door card texture may be more beneficial for heat insulation and aesthetics.

Where did you find NB carpet? I have a customer that wants maroon carpet for his Mahogany.

Ah yeah, for aftermarket carpet - I didn't mean an actual full floor pan carpet replacement. I mean carpet by the yard, type of thing.

Build is moving along slowly. Got some carpet. It was quite thin and had no backing...but it looks right.

Anyone have any sources gauge bezels? I found a few...but I feel like there would be a place that would have various designs at various diameters. Sometimes I wonder if Im using the wrong keyword...but its probably more along the lines that it's too niche to even bother, and eoukd have to be custom made, etc.

It’s a basic mold, so lots of fitting, shaping and trimming. All the holes have to be cut. Transfer over the plastic clips that attach the carpet on the sill pinch welds under the sill plates. It’s a big job.

I had checked them, but only list for NA and NC.
I know the similarity in NA to NB, since Im putting 10AE interior in Barbaras much modified 97M.
Just not sure I want to take that on for a picky customer. ;)
