    Little Miata update:

Last week after getting off work and driving my friend to the tow yard, I noticed some big white streaks on the rear bumper. Much to my dismay, someone had hit my bumper while it was parked and decided to be an awful person and run. No note, no dashcam, and no surrounding security cam footage. (Pic attached below showing damage)

And because it wasn't bad enough, when I took it to a shop to get it repaired, the estimate total was just shy of my insurance policy's deductible so can't even have insurance pay for some of the damage.

Just my luck. Well, should have my Miata back in a few days, looking as good as new.

Newest Miata part is of course a Mazdaspeed part!

Was able to pick up the Mazdaspeed Airbox 94-97 from _spirit_road_ on Instagram. While most of the Mazdaspeed airboxes I've seen are the traditional gold, this one was powdercoated a High Heat Flat black that is supposed to help keep intake air cooler and help keep the intake itself cooler.

While I would've loved to have the original gold intact, the black is still a very nice color and was done extremely well so I can't complain.

Was a bit of a pain getting it installed but wasn't anything too crazy. Really love how the engine bay is turning out.

Some before and after pictures as well as pictures from the install.

I literally shed a tear. That was my old Mazdaspeed intake box and I am very happy to see it went to a good home.

Just a small "mod" in the meantime.

Was helping my friend install an axle-back exhaust and Cusco front strut bar on his new Impreza. Since I was there and we finished way early, ended up removing the front and rear tie down hooks since they have no purpose anymore.

I think the Miata looks way better without them. I really need to get a front lip already though.

Plus, gotta make room for those OEM fog lights

Back after a while and just in time for the New Year!

As part of a Christmas gift to myself, I finally got my Eunos fog lights installed. Took a while because I'm not familiar (and comfortable) with wiring and electrical work. On top of that, the regular fog light switch was not compatible with the plug that the harness that my car had. What was compatible however, was the dual defroster/fog light switch. Sadly, since USDM Miatas were never offered with fog lights, there was nowhere to get them locally, so it was off to Rev9 to order the switch. Other than that, nothing really out of the ordinary with the installation and I'm very happy with how it all turned out.

Along with the fog lights, also got OEM-style front and rear lips for the car. Fitment isn't perfect but all in all for what it is I'm satisfied. Might take a heat gun to it to try to make it fit nicer if I ever get around to it. Now to figure out what's next on the list!

    ---
    Finally back with an update!

Being away from the Miata meant that I was unable to work on it for a long while however that didn't stop me from acquiring parts for it while I was gone. Finally managed to pick up a new radiator after letting the old and browning plastic one stay in the car for a year. While there was no leaks or cracks that I could see, not only was it time to change because the plastic was changing color but it was also unsightly and an all aluminum Koyorad would look but nicer. With my original 96, I had gone with a Mishimoto radiator and while it got the job done, it's much thicker size had made installation a pain for me and my friend in that tight engine bay. With the Koyorad, it was about as thick as the OEM one, while performing better than the Mishimoto. Didn't run into many or any issues with the actual radiator itself, more with me having to deal with trying to find the c-clip for the lower radiator pegs that I flung into the bushes while trying to transfer them to the new radiator.

Got rid of the old hoses too and replaced them with nice and new Maruha hoses. The hoses were so stuck in place I have no idea if the radiator has ever been replaced. But got those off and it's all looking better. All in all, very happy with installation and how everything is.

Two other pieces I installed were a new 1.8L valve cover that's been powdercoated Flat Black and the DaveFab LHD Washer Bottle relocation kit. Both of these items weren't exactly a priority but the opportunity came up and decided to get them. My original valve cover was perfectly fine but years of grime and driving had made its way onto it and it wasn't exactly looking very good. The powdercoated one looks so much better. With the washer bottle too, the old plastic one was fine enough but was ugly and so decided to go with something that frees up a lot of space in the engine bay and looks much nice too (need to get it wired though as I didn't get a chance to actually do that).

To round it all off, also picked up a retro-style luggage rack that my old Miata had as well that I think really gave the Miata a nice look so glad to have one again.

Long post, but big update to the Miata. Really happy with how it's turning out. Pics below!

    Small update for y'all.

Picked up a Beatrush rear strut bar from a local Miata owner. I was originally eyeing to find the Mazdaspeed rear strut bar in order to match the front one but I've had a hard time finding them, and the only one I've found was about ~$350 which I think is frankly ridiculous for a rear strut bar. While not Mazdaspeed, the Beatrush more than adequately does the job that I need it to. The piece was repainted from gold to black which is a bit annoying but since it's in the rear and it won't be seen much, I didn't mind.

I also finally got around to installing Revlimiter's ring vents which I think spruce up the interior very nicely. I plan on getting the long Joyfast shift knob to replace the old Nardi that I've retired since it started coming apart. In the meantime, going back to the stock Miata shift knob. Super easy install and happy with the results. I didn't get a chance to take a picture of all of the rings installed yet; I'll post some pictures when I get the chance.

Also got my shop to deal with some coolant leaks that started since installing the Koyorad and the Maruha hoses since I've had awful luck with fluids. Turns out the provided hose clamps that came with the kit were all either junk or close to it, so they installed new clips, and did a pressure test and everything is now back to normal.

I'm glad the Miata is finally up and running again. I'm going to be taking it back to university with me so I'll hopefully be able to drive and enjoy it more especially as summer rolls around.

    Pics below:

No mod update this time but since I finished Spring Quarter, I was finally able to take a long and enjoyable drive to Lake Berryessa about an hour and a half from my university. The drive there was sublime and reminded me why I love the Miata so much; she just absolutely ate through the windy roads. Didn't get pics from that day except for on my film camera so hopefully I can get that developed soon.

As a result of that drive and just being in the Central Valley, the Miata was covered in dust, bugs, and everything else you can think of. Home for the weekend and with time to kill, decided it was finally time to do that deep clean and clay bar that I've been itching to do. The paint feels so much better and feels smooth for once. The car is finally shining again. Overall, super satisfying to take the day and care/maintain your car/paint.

Definitely the next thing I'm going to take care of with the Miata is getting a new soft top since the rear plastic window under the beating sun has discolored and cracked so much that its unusable. Finally going to upgrade to that glass window and defroster that I've been wanting for a long time.

Pics below from the wash today.

Sadly still no new parts or update for the Miata.

Been back in Davis while the Miata is back in the Bay Area. Was going to drive back for the weekend (spend time with my family for birthday and all) but due to circumstances I was unable to go for now. Sadly while down there was going to pick-up a set of 14x6.5 Silver Watanabe Type B wheels that someone in a local group has had up for a while. The wheel is pretty much exactly how I wanted it except for the color but that can be easily dealt with. I've always loved the look of Watanabes and have wanted to get a set since my original 96 M-Edition. Hoping the wheels are still available when I get back finally hopefully in the next few days.

Going to finally get the top changed for a zipperless glass top too as I mentioned in the previous post. Long overdue repair/upgrade and I think the glass window will be an absolute game changer.

Until then, my friend's film pictures came back and here are some of the shots of the Miata that he took when we went on a drive together. I think they came out great! (Shot on a Rollei 35 and with Velvia 50 if I'm not mistaken for those who care).
