    FS: M2-1028 tombstone and console

    SOLD!!!

Continuing with my excess parts liquidation, next up is a genuine M2-1028 tombstone and console set. The tombstone is special in that it does not curve back to connect with the console, it goes straight down to meet the carpet. Since the carpet doesn't have to hide that part of the tombstone, it can lay flat on the center tunnel, no fiberglass spacer needed under the carpet which is easy to damage by leaning on it, or ugly plastic exposed if you go without the spacer.

I picked this one up hoping it was nicer than the one I already have, but it's in about the same condition. The tombstone has a smooth rubberized coating on it instead of the hard textured surface of the standard one. Since they are 25 years old now, the coating has started to break down, creating a sticky surface. It's not horrible, but it will pick up impressions and imperfections. I haven't decided if I want to refurbish mine yet or just leave it original for originality sake, so I wanted the new owner of this one to have that same choice. Removing the coating and painting it should remove all of the marks. You may be able to just smooth them out also since the coating is rubbery.

The carpet has only a couple of small marks. Very little fading.

The original boot is in good shape also. A couple of the trim ring screws might be able to be cleaned up.

The tombstones come up very infrequently, even relative to how rare most M2 parts are. I'm asking $700 plus shipping and fees for the set.

    SOLD!!!

A console alone sold for $250+ the other day. The guy that used to sell the carpet kits hasn't done so in a while, and I think this whole setup would tidy up extremely well with some SEM 15243 for the console and a mini torch for the stray threads on the carpet.

I presume this also has the attachment piece that aligns it to the tunnel over the shifter?

Nice setup. If I didn't already have one, I'd be all over this!

Correct, it has the metal mount under that attaches to the 4 screws that the rubber shifter boot uses, and then the trim ring attaches to it from the top. Replacement/DIY versions of these were going for $60-80.

That tombstone that just sold went for about half of what I've seen in the past. I think it's because it has 2 holes on the sides to use screws like the standard ones. Those were from the M2 replacement parts. Still genuine, but not originally fitted to one of the 300 cars and it doesn't look as clean.

Ya know, this would have been great if I still had my Orange car with black interior, but it's BRG/tran this time around.

    Great looking piece.
