    Considering a NC

    Greetings,
I had to sell my bike after nearly 40 years in the saddle due to back issues and multiple surgeries.
Looking to recapture the feeling, freedom and fun in a inexpensive, dependable "production" roadster.
I've looked at some post prediction cars, but the lack of available parts and their cost made them undesirable.
We've sat in the NC & ND and drove the ND, while fun to drive it felt a bit tight to us, so we're focusing on the NC soft top.
Reading through this thread it looks like there are several versions of the NC, can someone tell me how many versions and their model years and what the difference is between?
Also are there any model years to avoid and why?
Lastly the wife wants/needs heated seats, is the only trim option the Grand Touring?

    Thanks and Happy Holidays!

As far as I know heated seats are only in the grand touring models. My next car will be an NC with retractable hard top. I just need to get a couple teens to move out!

Also, there is some good info here:

    Santanig5,

Considering your back issues, I would seriously consider a PRHT with push button open/close. You don't mention where you live but the PRHT closed environment is more civil in very hot or very cold climates. I use mine in both heat and cold here in Florida. It has no downside as far as top down fun.

I would also recommend a 6 speed AT. If you want to manually shift, there is a mode for that, both with paddles or the shifter lever. At other times, simply slip it into full automatic. I appreciate this most in city traffic in the rain, something you didn't experience much on your motorcycle.

Thanks for the reply, we are only looking for AT as the wife doesn't drive a sick and my knees will be very grumpy shifting in traffic.
My only concern about the PRHT is mechanical problems, the soft top is simple and so far has not been a issue for me on the few i have looked at, so long as my wife can raise and lower her self it's not a issue.
Hard to find any stats on roof failures.
We are in NJ now, but maybe FLA in the near term.

There were some teething issues on the '06-07. I would look at the 08 Grand Touring. The '09+ have the revised engines (stronger), design updates.

My needs are different than yours, but aesthetically and mechanically, the '09+ are the only NCs I would consider.

Just saw the SavageGeese retrospective on the NC on YouTube. They go into deep detail on the changes made during the 10 year production run. Didn't realize they revised the suspension for the NC2 to correct complaint about wallowing in the NC1.

All in all, I would strongly recommend you watch this video before making your selection.

BTW the PRHT has been bulletproof for me. Mazda has been making them since the later NBs, so I would assume they have worked the bugs out.

Drove my first NC2 with PRHT on a closed test track at the dealership, it was great lots of twists and turns, lots of paddle shifting, it was on rails, plenty of excitement to power ratio and quite with the top up.
Now to find the “right one” for us.
    Thanks all for your input!

Mid-late winter is the time to shop them used. They can languish on lots or people try to sell them before tax season. That’s when you can find the deals, or negotiate prices better.
