While you're at it you should also check out his Karuizawa thread from 2015. Back in the day, it was his pictures and story telling that convinced me I would one day need to make the pilgrimage. I still think its kinda crazy that the Shinkai service cars were among the first I also encountered before my first K-meet. Never had imagined I would also have met Mr. W himself nor had the delight to spend some time talking roadsters, teaching and Japan all the while walking the lots and taking in the scenery (and benefiting greatly from his translating skills). I've said it before and know it won't be the last time but Roadster tribe really is the best tribe.
Wow Pete I’ll have to give it a read!! I have been following him for a minute but obviously not long enough and I’ll definitely give his thread a read and see all the beautiful content!

Yeah, it was a great list of mods straight from the get-go! Bucket seat, closer steering wheel, and an LSD are the basics as far as I'm concerned! The 1.5 way unit is way different from the Torsen in my NA back in the States too; it hops and chirps a lot more. I kept stalling it turning right or left out of my apartment parking lot when I first got the car. It takes a lot more throttle to push it around at low speed. It also pushes a bit on corner entry, doesn't rotate quite the same as my NA. But it jumps out of corners comparatively, while the NA feels like it's kind of wasting its throttle input until the wheel is straightened again, it's great! The only missing thing I wish it came with is a roll bar. Saving up for one of those now!

Thanks!! It was about time to finally make some thread for the NB I think haha.

Thanks for the kind words! It was great meeting you, especially among that kind of Karuizawa scenery! Hope you'll come back again soon and check out the NB!

I also went ahead and bought a set of CMC03's the same weekend I paid for the NB. They were on sale and they're one of my favorite wheels, along with Watanabes. I've got some wats on the NA, so I'll go with some CMC03's on the NB! Hoping I can wrap some Star Specs around them sometime in the next few months.

I'm not sure this part is all that important, but I have some photos and it was one of the first things I got to do in the NB, so here's some post!

Corn*s told me about a Roadster 30th anniversary meet/friendly race at Fuji Speedway, so I was happy to go check it out!

Unfortunately, it was in the middle of typhoon 17, so it got pretty wet and windy halfway through.

    someday...

After Fuji, I went to another meet with Corn*s at Miyagase. It was fun, but I didn't take any photos of my car there. Here are a few of some other Roadsters:

November came, and I found a chance to get my own plates!

I decided to do the paperwork myself, and the staff were very helpful. I'd done the paperwork for 2 motorcycle plates before, but those were 250cc bikes and didn't have shaken paperwork. Thanks to the registration office staff, though, it all went smoothly. "Fill out this area, don't mind this part, etc."

Later in the month, I managed to get my Japanese license. The local licensing center in Tochigi is notoriously difficult for the license test for foreigners, so I was pretty anxious about it leading up. Most people I know had taken 4 to 6 attempts before they passed. My work wasn't letting my take time off, and my international permit was running out of time, so it came down to the wire. By the time I could take my first test, I only had a week before my IDP expired.

Miraculously, I passed on the first attempt. Such a relief! Had to put on the ubiquitous shoshinsha mark, by law. I'll be able to take it off later this year.

In December, I drove down to Tokyo and got an oil change and shaken done at Corn*s. Shaken is indeed expensive here in Japan.

January came around, and the winter break ended. We haven't had as much snow as last year here in Sakura, but the forecast kept saying it was soon. Went ahead and swapped on some steelies and snow tires just in case.

Since January, I've just been enjoying my car and the local car culture!

Went over to Nikko Circuit on a recent national holiday to check out a drift event. I'm lucky that Nikko Circuit is only about a 20 minute drive from my apartment!

Iroha isn't too far either, so I've been enjoying the local mountain scenery too!

A couple cool guys at the top offered to take my photo! They weren't used to manual focus though lol

Now I'm just saving up for parts, like a roll bar, harnesses, and a hardtop. Hope I can get the car prepped soon so I can start enjoying Nikko Circuit on the weekends!

Thanks again for updating this thread! The perspective of life in Japan, that perspective through the lens of your cameras and NB life and how they all combine is fantastic. Arigato!

Man, haven't updated in a while!

I drove down to Kobe back in March to pick up a cheap hardtop off Yahoo! Auctions. It was a long drive (and I had to sleep a couple nights in the passenger seat), but everything went as planned. That is, until I got to Kobe, met the seller, and realized that my car didn't come with frankenstein bolts! One slow, creaky drive to the hardware store later, and I managed to bolt it on.

Kobe. One of the last photos my Kyocera T Scope camera shot before it died lol

I drove through Nagano on the way down, but chose to go up the coast and over Hakone on the way back so I could see some old tokaido haha.

Little did I know, this was the last time I'd leave the prefecture for a while. I took my precautions on the trip (no social interaction besides buying food, didn't even use hotels), but infected numbers started getting worse and soon, in April, us teachers were banned from inter-prefectural travel. Still stuck here haha.

I found a Mazdaspeed A-Spec lip on the auctions in April and threw that on the car, along with a Garage Vary headlight intake lid and an Autoexe ram air intake. I painted the lip in ND Roadster Reflex Blue Mica. I just like that color and wanted to try it out. Not sure what will happen when the new front comes.

Then I bought some Watanabe B-types off the auctions in July to replace the CMC02's as my daily wheel. I'm still waiting to put some Z3 Star Specs on the CMC03's, haven't got rid of those! I love Watanabes though and couldn't help myself. 14"x7J +8 (with a 5mm spacer to clear the brake calipers, so effectively +3), guessing the color is standard gunmetal "black". Just for future reference, if you get some Wats that aren't shaved for Roadster caliper clearance, 5mm spacer is the minimum; I wasted my money trying to see if 3mm spacers would work. Spoiler: they don't.

Now it's August and I'm enjoying driving the NB around Tochigi on our shortened summer break. I somehow always end up back at Iroha though haha.

A couple nights ago, enjoying the touge. The Autoexe intake sounds great!

Also bought another something off the auctions recently that I'm really excited about! A long-time dream part of mine, and hopefully I'll have my hands on it by the end of the month.

Yeah! Japanese was my major and I used to live in Kyoto as a student, so I was fluent enough in daily language before I came. Still a ton more to learn though (looking at you, kanji), I practice everyday!
You should come over, even for just a trip! Japan's a really cool place. Nice people, wonderful nature... roadsters lol. All sorts of great stuff.

Can’t wait for the new updates but as always, thoroughly enjoyed the additional color on your trip to get the hardtop! Amazing to me with a few simple tweaks how you’ve taken a stock-ish NB and made it completely desirable!!

Well, this just saved me a bunch of time trying to fit 3mm spacers over my Watanabes that I just picked up a few weeks back. Nice to know!

New thing finally arrived. A new friend from Nagoya drove it up here for me in his beautiful Mark II wagon and helped me fit it.

D-Technique TDR front! This is a dream for me, I've always wanted one of these front ends. Huge thanks to Maksim (@tsukubaroadster) for alerting me to the auction.

The bumper has some scuffs and small cracks, but nothing irreparable. It came with the lenses and the lights + brackets, so I couldn't be happier. Just need to wire up the headlights, make a new license plate bracket, and paint the bumper now!
