    R-lip refinishing

MR.Net! I've searched far and wide, both here and on the interwebs but haven't found any solid advice on how to refinish an R lip (or something made of R lip material ). I don't want to paint it and have read that sanding is a bad idea and back-to-black hasn't done enough. Any ideas (or better experience) on removing scratches??

    xoxo

Hate to say it, but painting is the best choice. The last one I bought new, it arrived primered in a dark grey.

I painted mine satin black to match the rockers on my NA6. I usually sanded it down, used high-fill primer, and another satin black top coat.

I eventually began to paint the rockers and rear R lip with the same paint every few years. It hid the road blasting the front tires gave the rockers and gave the car a uniform, clean visual line from the profile.

I've also sanded and painted it the similar color as the side rocker matte black. I even painted my rs active shrouds the same color. The paint on the r lip stays on surprisingly well peter. You have nothing to worry about!

So yeah i sanded mine down cause it was beat anyways, then i primered it... then blasted a the matte black. I can also find what i used, but it seems joel has suggested something good.

Did the same on mine (albeit different lip, but same PU material). Sanded smooth, cleaned well with IPA, then painted with textured black bumper spray. 3 years later still looks like day 1.

I use bumper black, that way its easy to fix when it gets beat up........and if it doesn't your not low enough.

When my lip started fading after a few years I just waxed it and that brought it back. I'm guessing that wouldn't work for you if back to black didn't do enough though.

My first r-lip took a beating where it would contact curbing at the track on the sides. It had worn down pretty thin. The newt one I bought was OEM and was made in Canada (on the box), primered as described above.
