I hope mine didn't come from Mazda painted like that. It was a piss poor job on the masking of it. I have been going back and forth on getting the entire car painted, either with the stock Highlight Silver or going with some kind of variant of the Highlight Silver. But I want to make sure that the car is properly prepped prior.

Both hardtops I've owned were original color. the NA had a very early HT that was originally BRG. The one I have now came from and NA that was originally Crystal White. Neither had red primer.

Just from what I remember speaking with the gentleman I picked it up from, your HT came off a Spec Miata, 'race quality' paint was the expectation. I'm still debating if I'm going to paint mine myself of let a pro do it. A lot of 'quick' paint jobs, shops don't remove the rear window exterior seal to do it, so the paint under it begins to show as that rubber shrinks with age.

That is exactly what is happening with mine. After my somewhat successful side mirror paint job, I have debated on painting mine myself also. If we do make the makeshift paint booth to paint Ethan's spec miata, I will probably sneak my hardtop over there and hit it up.

That was brilliant. As much as I've "known" about your NB project I gleaned many things.

    1. it's a 1998 NB. Bonus points for JDM and a model year that missed us
    2. a reminder that video screens are permissible in cars (I guess Japanese driver's must be much more disciplined given I feel threatened every single day by people being distracted while texting and driving.)
    3. heating Katsu in the engine bay for a warm lunch.

I normally just leave the unit on music or maps, but it's nice to be able to watch movies for days when I'm stuck in parking lots, eating lunch in the car.
Drivers here watching TV while they're driving still kinda freaks me out; I sometimes turn on the news during typhoons so I can listen to the weather in the background though.

I think the hand gestures are just "teacher-mode" finally spilling over into my private life. haha

    Finally!!

If you get bored just count how many times I say "I really". Of course I still forgot to mention the Dan Dak custom 3rd brake light but here is a video of it in action:

Thanks Chad, awesome tour of Misfire! Heap loads of humble in the video… “Didn’t do much on the engine… it did come with a Jackson M45. 9psi”. But it’s supercharged!! And the novelty not wearing out? I thought it would with my version of boost but I still get a kick out of it every single time I’m behind the wheel. I haven’t even been tempted to think about upping the psi.

Looking forward to your perspective on how the handling changes with 3 extra inches of wheel going from RPF1’s to the 6ULs and new suspension.

Might have missed the brushed wiper stalk arms (your work?) just under that custom gauge cluster you’ve built.

Anyways, I’m glad you appreciate this amazing community as much as I do. And on that? No need to apologize so much, you’re among friends here.

@oldgrayleather: My pleasure, Pete! Glad you and hopefully others enjoyed it.

Humility is easy when life keeps serving you "humble pie". I just don't think I can take credit for something unless I did it myself, even if one pays to have it done they at least you commissioned/paid for it where as I did not with the supercharger setup...just my outlook.

Ya it seems like people are always saying that once you go forced induction you will just want to "up the power even more" and while I personally do want a bit more power, 30-40+whp, I think your average enthusiast would be content with the performance of a NA/NB miata with 170-180whp.

I too am eager to see the difference with the 15x10s w/ 245s. I can already tell that the smaller side wall 15" stock wheel with all seasons isn't as forgiving over bumps and such but does ride better going down the road. Obviously not going to be a apples to apples comparison but hopefully can help others.

The brushed wiper stalks was one of a few modifications I forgot to mention. I meant to do as Jamie suggested and make some cliff notes but failed to do so. Hopefully most didn't find the video to mind numbing at 20+ minutes. I think with proper editing and content that isn't a unreasonable length video but the raw cut by a amateur is another story.

I think all of us would benefit from editing multiple takes for all the best clips and bits. I'm sure if any of us got more regular at doing such one-take kind of videos, we'd get better at it. "Practice makes perfect" and all that.

Guys like Tom Scott on youtube make talking about a subject and getting it done in one-take look simple. But I think we all now know, it's not. Btw, if ya haven't fallen down the ole Tom Scott rabbit hole, totally worth checking out.

I'm a little late to the party

Hopefully, I'll be able to remake this video in a couple of years and have a car to show that's a lot cooler
