93le carpet is not fitting right in my 96 Miata.

    Hey guys,

I bought a used 93le carpet from a member here a little while ago and installed it about a year ago and when I got it installed i noticed that a section in the passenger footwell did not seem to have enough material to cover the floor properly, as you can see in the pic attached.

I have tried pulling the carpet as much as I could, but it always ends up looking like that. Is it because the carpet is from a 1.6 and I am installing it on a 1.8? I do notice that there are plastic tubes that cover the wires that are under the carpet, I am not sure if that is like that from the factory or the previous owner added that, either way I'm wondering if the carpet might have been trimmed at the section or I need to remove those plastic tubes for it to fit better.

Please let me know if anyone else has run into this problem before. Thanks!

    -Will

Plastic tubes/channels are OEM, and there should not be any difference between 1.6 and 1.8 AFAIK. Maybe the PO has trimmed it for some reason?

So, the NA6 has an ECU cover plate in the passenger footwell. This means the carpet from the LE is a little shorter in the passenger side. When a passenger gets in your car, they are likely putting their feet in that area pulling the carpet in that gap where the ECU cover would be.

You could see about fitting that ECU cover and a little foam wedge, or fashion a plug in a similar size and volume.

Good catch! All EUDM cars (up to NB2) have their ECU at the same spot, and although I was aware it was moved on MSMs, I did not know that for NAs. Mazda did some weird shit...

Wow! Thats right the ECU was in the passenger foot well! Thanks so much guys!

It's nice for the passenger to have all that extra space from not having that cover there though eh? Maybe I can get a cover and see how that changes things.

    Problem solved!

That plate attaches to a few studs in the floor and one or two bolts up top. There is a foam wedge that fills in the transition at the bottom.

Your na8 won’t have the studs, but some stiff industrial Velcro may be the ticket. You *could* mount a tiny amp in there if you wanted, I think.
