6 speed shifter question (2002 nb transmission to be installed in 1992 na)

Re: 6 SPEED SHIFTER QUESTION (2002 NB TRANSMISSION TO BE INSTALLED IN 1992 NA)

I am getting back to my Ecotec Miata project.
Last week I bought a low mileage Miata 6 speed transmission that I will be installing after I sort out several other bugs.
The transmission did not come with the shifter assembly.
Should I get an aftermarket shifter assembly (short throw) or find a stock shifter assembly?
I heard the 6 speed can sometimes be finicky finding gears and I want to select what would work best finding gears over the distance of the throw.

Some like the stock 6sp shifter, some don’t. I lean towards stock unless sampling aftermarket options are in your means.

    Feel is too subjective.

I have a MiataRoadster short throw shifter with a Beatrush bronze bushing, using the Motorcraft unicorn tears fluid. Love the feel and throws. For me, better than stock. YMMV.

    Thanks Chiefmg,
As Steven said "Go stock unless you want to test sample".
So you are my unpaid test sampler!

Your recommendation lead me to the Miata Roadster shifter as an option.

Your feedback helped to confirm the positive reviews at Miata Roadster.
I like too that you get everything you need with the shifter.

Next I was also going to ask about the Motorcraft transmission fluid and you already answered that question.
So I am all set now and have direction.

That was my exact setup as well. I loved the shifting feel over stock and never had a problem with notchiness but then again, I wasn't shifting Fast-n-Furious style through all eighteen gears. Even as good as that setup felt, It got even better when I added my 1lb. TWM shift knob. I did notice a little rattling once in a while from the brass bushing.

Oh, one side benny with the 6-speed is that you can fill it from the turret. I used that Motorcraft fluid in my 370Z too.

No todo que es oro brilla.
