I'm glad for this thread.
I'm glad for this thread.
Here are some pics of the local town right outside of base. It's a very small town, with small cobblestone streets in most parts of the interior. My boss wanted to show me the town and took me with her when she got her nails done.
All pics taken with a Nikon D5000 and 35mm f/1.8
This was just outside the nail salon my boss was at. (The focal point was at the end of the street)
This was a cool sculpture/statue right next to the harbor/marina.
This series was taken along the waterfront before I got to the sculpture.
This was heading up to one of the many churches in the town
This one turned out to be one of my favorite shots of the day. My only gripe are the two flag poles right in the middle of the picture. I don't have photoshop so I couldn't edit them out. I have two different versions. The first one I "warmed up" the photo with basic Mac editing software. I like cause it adds a touch of color to the brick. The second is the original.
Please feel free to comment on them and what I can do better as far as exposure, composition, ideas, etc. The next time I go out I'll be sure to change my cameras color settings to "vivid" in hopes it will brighten up the colors on the buildings. I'm relearning my camera and shooting techniques after a 5 month hiatus, so bear with me lol
So I went to Austin and got a good full day of shooting with my new D3000. It was my first time handling a DSLR for an extended period of time, and these are a few of the shots I came away happy with.

Any feedback? I'm still really green with DSLR's and all that, but I definitely enjoy it!

I got a sweet DSLR setup from my girlfriend for Christmas
Body: Canon T3i
Lens: 18-55(standard), 50mm prime, Tamron 70-300
I took these shots with the 50mm when I first got it. I am no professional and I'm still trying to figure out how to use this device. Its a big jump going from Iphone pics to DSLR!

And when I leave, come together like butt cheeks...
First time taking photos with a model with the strobes (2nd time shooting with a model). First two are with a beauty dish only (AB800). The third is a beauty dish as the key light and an AB800 as back light.

I like the perspective on that 4th one.
It was a lucky shot. Once I was on my knee to take a shot the four ducks waddled over in a line thinking I was going to give them bread.
Here's the behind the scenes video from the images posted above:
I'll have the photos from the second set up ~ Friday.
