    How-to: Post Images

There seems to be a number of new members that aren't quite sure how to post photos on the forum. This is meant to be a quick how-to to give you the general idea of what needs to be done to post pics.

You have a few options that you can use to post pictures:
    1. Host them on the forum itself using the Image button
    2. Host them on an outside site, linking them here.

Hosting images on the forum is preferred because you won't get little red X's instead of pics later on down the road if you move your albums around, but hosting pics on a free hosting site can be done quickly and is easy to do once you've done it a couple times and have already set up your account.

How to Upload Photos Using an External Site

You have many options when it comes to hosting photos externally. Pretty well all of these sites are free unless you'd like to upgrade. Some examples are:

    www.photobucket.com
    www.flickr.com
    www.imageshack.us
    www.tinypic.com

For the purposes of this how-to I will be using Photobucket because that is what I usually use and already have an account setup.

Step One: Set up your account on the external site.

This step is pretty straight forward; visit any of those websites I've listed above and follow their instructions for signing up.

    Step Two: Upload your images

Step Three: Copy the URL with [IMG] tags attached

Step Four: Paste the URL into your post and preview your post

You can also use the insert image button to copy the direct link of the picture and post it that way. Or just insert [IMG] [/IMG] tags around the direct link to the picture you'd like to post.

I may have a stupid question. When I press the insert image button, It only gives me the option to upload a URL. I dont get the option to post from my computer. Is there something I missed.

You might have to close your window and open a new window to start over if its doing that.

You're looking at the two tabs at the top of the dialog box that opens when you click the insert-image button that say "From computer" and "From URL" whereas the "From Computer tab seems to be disabled. Look in the lower right corner of that box and you'll see "basic uploader" which is what you should click to navigate to a local picture on your computer.

Remember there are two kinds of image insertion methods allowed on this forum (or any forum). The first is the "attachment" method whereas you can upload images from your computer to this forum. The size is limited as is the numbers of photos per post but it will automatically resize your image(s) and create thumbnails.

The other method is to upload your photos to a service like Photobucket. Your photo is stored on their server and you just post the link to it here. That link is bookended with [img] tags so that it'll work here. There are a couple other options under their "share" options such as "Direct link" and "HTML code" but only use the "[IMG] code" option.

don't know if it has anything to do with it. But on the bottom of this screen under posting permissions, It says You may not post attachments. I get no tab options in my Insert Image dialog. And there is no basic uploader link in the bottom right corner. I guess I will have to find a site to host them. Thanks for your help.

Does the forum have an anti-spamhole limit of posts before you can... feature?

Usually 15 or thirty or something like that, keeps the one hit and quit douchebags from flooding the boards with 'buy my useless shit' posts with a billion keywords and almost as many links.

No need to feel stupid. You are correct. Currently, New Users cannot attach photos. A New User is one with less than 5 posts or less than two weeks membership. That gives us time to weed out spammers and troublemakers before they move on to Registered Users.

I see now that your post above makes 5 so you should be able to attach photos now. Sorry for the inconvenience.
