KG Works - Dual Head Lamp Conversion (The Originator)

Designed to be mounted by simply exchanging units, so no special wiring is necessary, plug & play ready. These lights gained popularity when they were used on Mazda's Concept car the "M-Speedster" at the 1993 Chicago Auto Show by Mazda of America and have been very popular ever since. Since these are custom made they are produced at a rate of only about 5 sets a month, there is a 4 to 6 week wait after ordering. These lights can be installed in half a day even by an amateur. Introduced in 1993 by KG-Works (Original Design). Still available in Japan from KG-Works, (Special Order, Made-To-Order only) http://miataroadster.com/kg_works/kg...i-1677250.aspx

The parking light mesh "Cold Air Intake" is also designed by KG Works and can also be ordered from MiataRoadster.com, Rspeed.net, or Rev9 as a special order item. Pictures from KG works ad in HyperREV-1 (1994)

Bodyshop Hayashi - Flush Type Lamp Conversion

Bodyshop Hayashi - Flush Type Lamp Conversion

Showcased at the 1992 Tokyo Auto Salon this was Jack Hayashi's cleaner than clean example of how to make a miata his own. This headlight conversion was probably the most expensive, but also the best designed even to date. The headlights look like fix mounted types but actually retain the stock headlight motors to raise the headlight housing from the rear to better aim the light output onto the road. This helps to compensate for the slope of the Miatas front nose and hood area. Whereas most low profile kits will actually make you lose a bit of your night time vision. He made 2 versions of these, first was a flash clear lid, and the 2nd version had the double bubble humps as seen below on Greg G's Miata.

Hayashi Body Shop also produced a retro tail lamp setup (out of production) however Barchetta & TRAP now produce the same versions.

Racing Sports Active - Low Profile Rectangle Type Conversion

Racing Sports Active - Low Profile Rectangle Type Conversion

Similar to other low profile designs, RS-Active uses a rectangle type light instead of circular ones. They made two version of these while in production, the main difference was the bulb and housing type. Another note: These particular lenses have a dichroic(?) coating on the low beam portion which gives it the yellowish hue despite being a normal white bulb.

Here they are on members rides = Typesticky's (Black) MX5, Slutz4's (Blue) Miata, and jnshk's (White) Miata

If I recall correctly, Ric ultimately kept the v2 housings on his gorgeous Miata.

BrainStorm Performance - Low Profile Head Light Conversion

BrainStorm Performance - Low Profile Head Light Conversion

This was BSP's answer to the call for an affordable low profile headlight kit for the US Miata Aftermarket. Same design product as the as ones in Japan but manufactured in the USA. This was the 1st kit made available in the USA for Miatas, and was extremly popular. There was actually a waiting list for them years back (mid-late 90's) BrainStorm Performance had been based out of Georgia, and then moved out to California, not sure what became of them as the website is a dead link now. However other Miata based companys are now carrying the kits, and some members have even managed to upgrade the kits to HID.

    Availability Still in production

Here is my personal set when I had them installed on my '96 Miata.

    Goda Low Profile Headlights

    Goda Low Profile Headlights

Goda made 2 versions of rectangular headlights, I believe these came about once RS-Active stopped production on their kits, so now Goda is making this similar version. I don't have much information on these headlights, I will update it once I have more information.

    Availability = unknown?

    Moss Motors Headlights

    Cobalt low-profile dual headlamp

Similar in design to the BSP setup, this version sits a bit higher and offer better lighting on the road, note: this kit does require you to cut a small section of your miata's engine bay where as the BSP version does not. But the lighting output is well worth it!

They use Hella 90mm H9 projectors in the low beams and 90mm H9 reflectors in the high beams. These can be converted to D2S pretty easily without any changes to the housings, at least on the projector low beams.

You can find these still for sale online at; http://miataroadster.com/moss_motors.../i-532757.aspx

Here are some photos from Revlimiter's Miata to show what they look like installed

Please visit his website for more information and check out his Blog for all his updates!

Brainstorm Performance - Euro Fixed Headlight Conversion

Brainstorm Performance - Euro Fixed Headlight Conversion

This was the next version of BSP's headlight kits for the Miata. This would take about 15 pounds off your Miata, make your Miata more aerodynamic, (no more barn door air-brakes) however the light output was said to be less than stock output due to the slope of the Miatas nose. Most people that have this kit have upgraded the lamps to something with a higher output to help fix that problem.

    Availablity - Still in Production

Some owners have left the acrylic lens off for a different look.

    Barchetta HeadLights & Tail Lights

    Barchetta - The Backyard Builder

Don't let the name fool you! Barchetta has been around since the Eunos Roadster was released back in 1989, However originally started as a fan based club, once they started modding cars people wanted to start buying their custom upgrades, enter Barchetta!

    website = http://www.barchetta-x.com/

Photos courtesy of Tetsuya Garage (Barchetta's shop Car below)

    Barchetta Rear Tail Lights

These are actually the Hayashi Tail Lights, once Hayashi stopped making them Barchetta took over production with permission from Mr. Hayashi, they made these as a "Limited Production" item originally, however I believe they still produce these on a made-to-order basis. I had a set of these on my Miata and loved them! You will need to set up a separate reverse/backup light under your bumper, not hard to do.
(Zoom Engineering sells white backup lamps BTW)

    Garage Vary Tail Lights

Garage Vary Head Lights & Tail Lights

Content & pictures coming soon ....................

You can still get these however probably made to order now in Japan, the TypeII nose is done, but they still offer the Type III with the fixed lights.

    website = http://vary.co.jp/

Garage Vary Type II Bumper with fixed Lights (Notice the lights come down lower into the bumper to compensate for the Miatas nose slope for better light output on the road.

Garage Vary Type III Bumper with fixed Lights (Same lights as the type II nose, but fitted on the more popular "Winding Dancer" Bodykit.

Here is a Type III on a BRG Color, looks great!

Garage Vary Nostalgic Tail Lights What can you say, everyone loves to look at these, they did a nice job sorting out this setup, below are some painted different colors so that you can get an idea of what it might look like on your car.

Here is a set on Kevin's Widebody NA

And another set showing on Steve's Miata of http://projectgla.com/

You can still order these lights and custom finish panel here
    http://miataroadster.com/garage_vary...l/g-63586.aspx

And a few years back our resident Miata Guru David of http://garagewoolery.com/ created these great looking Trim Rings on a limited basis. If you have a set you have something very rare, but then you already know that! Here is the full skinny on the build for these. http://garagewoolery.com/2010/11/23/...in-production/

And Garage Vary has made a few "one-off" sets for the NB as well, this one is on their Race Car.

You can still order them from REV9Autosport.com

    Bellof Low Pro

I have very little information on these and would love to have some more. I got my set second hand but unused from a forum member who was parting out a car he'd never finished building. As far as I can tell, they're extremely rare (at least here in the U.S.) and were only produced in limited quantities or for a very short period of time. Build quality of the kit is good and they look fantastic. Very low-profile rectangular shape suits the face of the NA well.

Pretty sure they're made in Austria.

    The only other car that I'm aware of that has these in the U.S. - a s u r a 0 s 9, and Phatmiata
