Óoooooóooooooóooooooóoooooo
Been busting ass trying to get ready for this weekend. Apparently not hard enough because I'm still working and not able to go to the BBQ that starts in a couple hours. Short break for a pre weekend update.
Mounted the ECM in the factory location. Quick and simple design, I'll probably clean it up a bit later and maybe thin it out. Factory cover/foot rest still fits over it.
Made a mount for the passenger seat, Recaro SPG. Decided to go with a floor mount for simplicity's sake,
I picked up a Halotron extinguisher and decided to mount it in front of the passenger seat. Since I had some extra room there I went with 10lb bottle.
Since I was making a seat mount I thought it would as good a time as any to pull the Recaro SPA Racer I've had in storage for a few years. Its a great race seat but not at all streetable. My Reacro RS Limited is a great street alternative. This mount is a PITA trying to clear the tunnel, still working on it.
Got some of the interior together to make it look at least acceptable. Still a lot of work to do here in the future but it's a track day this weekend.
I've got a couple more hours work to finish the brakes, get the SPA in, and clean up. Then rest for tomorrow.

We need pictures!
Thanks, it was great meeting you and the guys @ V8R! A highlight to an otherwise pretty lackluster day.
That's what I get for procrastinating and doing a shake down day during one of the biggest get together days of the year. In other words I spent most of the day working on the car and not checking out the sites.
I have to sort thru the pics my wife took but I don't know if there are that many. Here's a short clip going down the straight at start/finish. There's decent audio of the 2-3 shift.
I'll write up a synopsis in a bit.

video says its PRIVATE, I know V8 noises might be considered porn but really though, such a tease....
Ok, should be fixed.
Oh by the way. Your wife is awesome! It's rare to find someone that supports and encourages your hobby like she does.
Now hurry and finish your car so you can build her one

The big tire experiment ... I wanted to replace my 15x10 Diamonds with Jongbloeds but I missed out on the Miata sized 10s with +25 offset. Luckily Phil's Tires carries some designed for BMWs with +15 offset and they're actually a better size for me with the big flares so it worked out. I was planning on using the new 245/40/15 Maxxis RC1 since they're the widest 15s besides the Hoosiers. At $175/ea shipped direct from Maxxis they're a pretty good deal also. While browsing their store about to place my order I noticed they also have a 275/35/17 RC1, which is another unique size. While that won't fit up front, I've seen similar diameter 245/45/16 tires in the rear of other N2 wearing cars. 15" and 17" stagger is definitely unusual but worth a try.
After a little searching I found the XXR 527 actually looks quite a bit like the Jongbloeds, especially in flat black. They come in 17x9.75 +25 which is also a pretty good match, close enough for my experiment. I already have 10mm spacers that would make the f/r offsets almost the same. If all goes well I could worry about finding a real set, or having something custom built.
Due to the slight stretch of the 245s on the 10s, the pairs look fairly close in size, close enough to probably not be worth all this extra trouble. But with 400 lbs ft of torque, I need all the traction help I can get. On paper there is 1 inch more section width on the 275s, which is more apparent side by side.
I mounted them up and did a couple laps around the neighborhood and found a couple spots that were slightly rubbing at the front of the rear fenderwell and needed a minor adjustment with the BFH.
Finally it was time to load the trailer. It was already 2am and I had to wake up at 5.

Trailer style - no front lip and raised the Xidas a bit up front. Unfortunately this is one of the few pics I have with the new wheel/tire setup.
As I mentioned before, the actual track day was a mess. Constantly working on the car and lack of sleep made for a long day. My first 2 sessions lasted 3-4 laps before getting black flagged for excessive smoke Turns out the big tire experiment was a fail, at least round 1.
It doesn't look that bad there, but there was enough to do some damage to the tires. After it ate/burned the fiberglass from the flares it got into the metal under.
The experiment was over for the day as I didn't want to risk another flag. The RC1s felt great the limited amount of time I used them. I think most of the problem was caused by too much down force from the APR GTC-200 wing I just put on. In the clip I posted earlier you can see smoke starting as I get up to about 80mph. I don't think I had any problems in the corners. I may have too much AOA on the wing so I'll look at that as well as trying to further mod the fenderwell where it was rubbing. Not giving up yet.
I brought my Star Sharks in case of emergency and turns out it was a good idea. I backed off in session 3 to get a feel of the much smaller 205 NT01s but session 4 I started to push a little harder, maybe too hard. After getting stuck in traffic for half a lap, I was cruising around the hairpin at Turn 2 and then lost all power and saw a low oil pressure warning. I pulled off between Turn 3 & 4 and my day was over. While waiting for the tow I summized I might have over revved on a downshift a lap back and now the motor decided it had enough.
After getting back to my trailer I talked it over with a friend and came to the conclusion that it didn't really sound like a motor failure. I decided to try to start it back up and sure enough it was still alive It could have been the ECM freaking out because of the over rev, I found a couple of accounts online of that happening, or a more probable explaination would be related to the charging problems I was having all day caused by a loose wire on the alternator.
To top it off my in car video only recorded my 2nd session, which was the shortest. I still need to try to edit what little footage I have. Thanks to the Rad Roadsters coverage of the event http://radroadsters.net/miatas-at-mazda-raceway-2015/ I have one good pic of me on track.
I think I have a few decent pics too, somewhere.

Car looks great!
Jealous of everyone that got to go to MRLS, much less drive the course! Nevermind in a sweet looking v8 powered miata!
Those carbon kevlar seats are sick!!!

I only have pics of session 4, and most are out of focus or not framed very well. Oh well.
Staging area.
Crossing start / finish and going under the bridge.
Going into 10, under the Corkscrew sign. You can get an idea of the elevation change, the Corkscrew is up that hill.
Turn 10. There's a Catfish back there, very cool looking body.
Coming out of 10.
Going into 11, just before the braking zone.
Coming out of 11.
Starting back down the straight.

Ok. I have been silently surfing this forum and found your thread. Read all the way through. My eyes are blistered, heart is pounding, wallet is trembling and I need to do my intro thread. Thanks for the insight and info. Looking forward to an extended-length vid of a run in it when you get the minor pitfalls fixed. Thank you Druz!
Doing the awesome shit I wish I could be doing. Love this thread.
