    Wanted: Red interior parts (NA)

    WTB: Red interior parts (NA)

I am collecting parts for an NA red interior.
Freight to Tasmania, Australia is expensive so I would like to obtain the red seat plastics as shown below.
This will enable me to complete a pair of red seats with repro seat covers without having to ship complete seats across the world.

I understand these parts are rare and will compensate accordingly.
    PayPal preferred.

    Also looking for:
    RHD red carpet
    RHD red dash crash padding

Please post pictures of your items in this thread.
    Thanks for any help.

I can understand wanting the plastic parts to be red on your upcoming red seats for that OEM look. I recovered my NB2 seats red and I left the black plastic parts alone:

I think it looks fine. There is enough black elsewhere in the cabin so I don't think the black plastic on the seats looks out of place.

Not sure if you are interested but I was looking in my garage this week and found a 93LE Red Leather wrapped NA6 Tombstone.

I will take some better photos this weekend, below is the only photo I could find of it. I bought in back in 2006 off the YJP Auctions but a week later got Nielex Tombstone so this one was boxed up and put on the shelf and I totally forgot about it. The seller stated it was from GM Co. Ltd, and if you look in the old HyperREV and R&S magazines you will see the ads from GM Company Ltd for a ton of cool leather wrapped goods for NA Roadsters.

I know I'm a bit OCD, but I haven't got all the parts yet so I may as well look for everything that's on my red list. If I can't find the red seat parts I guess I'll either go with black or paint some red. Your interior looks great. Where did you source the leather seat covers? They look like a nice match.

Wow, those seats Phat! Drool. I wouldn't need the recliner plastics with them.
I don't think I'd be up for the red tombstone though.

If you are OCD it will be easier to find an MX5 with this full interior, buy it, and then pull out the interior, put your black interior in, and then flip the car.

    Just a few ideas...

You could paint the plastic bits to match. Plastic paints have come a loooong way, so it is possible to either use an off the shelf color or research the paints themselves and have one custom matched and painted by a shop or DIY with a gun. The other suggestion would be a heat wrap, sort of a vinyl application that is thermo-wrapped to the pieces. The colored film is suspended, heated, then laid over the parts on a vacuum table that pulls the pliable film over the parts quite well.

    Something like this:

Point here, is you are now searching for parts that are about 20+ years old, exposed to UV, possibly brittle and maybe cosmetically damaged. IF your OCD can handle that, do it. Otherwise, this is a great way to get everything to match far better, possibly cheaper.

There doesn't appear to be any red interior cars in Australia. I've been advertising to buy one in Australia for a year, with no replies. On Mx5cartalk, the Australian Mx-5 forum, no one has even seen one here. I'd import a S-Limited but they aren't allowed to be imported except for racing. You need a cat3 racing licence to import one and then it can never be driven on the road. Seeing as that option would be about $10K minimum, I'm trying to build one from parts.

    They're good ideas.
I have a red dash which cracked while being freighted from England. If I use it I plan to repair and cover the top in a similar way to how RevLimiter repaired his when it cracked.
I only have a few red carpet clips so far which will be used in the most high wear locations and maybe paint the rest. I use DuPont vinyl paint which can be color matched to a high standard and is hard wearing.
I would prefer to obtain nice genuine red parts though.

If you have to end up going the dye route, I'd recommend SEM dye products. Here's a video example of the SEM stuff.

    =)

I have those red seat parts you are looking for.

I also have a full red interior carpet, however it is for LHD. But if you have floor mats, no one would ever know the difference. ;)

Lol. I'm working on my new red dash now, not sure if I'll be able to finish before I go on deployment in the next few weeks. I'll be in GA in a year. Haha. But by then the old dash may have became the project and may get the same treatment as the new dash, maybe more. Haha. Just hope it doesn't break or anything on the way back home to GA.

Sweet. Can you post pictures. Non-disassembled pictures are fine. I want to see they are not broken or too badly sun damaged. Maybe PM me a price.
    Thanks.
I'll leave the carpet. I can get new Australian made red moulded carpet at a good price. I plan to run this until another nice original set turns up on Yahoo. I missed out on a set Christmas/Boxing day as my importer was on holidays.
