    RX-7 @ Goodwood Festival of Speed 2014

Mad Mike Whiddett at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2014

    Turn UP the Volume!!!!

When it comes to the art of drifting, "Mad" Mike Whiddett is royalty. The star of last year's hit viral movie Conquer the Crown, Mike is one of the best-known drivers on the professional drift scene. Growing up in the driving paradise that is New Zealand, it's perhaps no surprise that the 33-year-old is a Mazda fan and owns an RX-7 and RX-8, both heavily modified. "The RX-7 is a naturally aspirated 4-rotor packing 537hp and the RX-8 is a 20b Turbo with 812hp", says Mike, who likes to keep himself busy. Besides tinkering away on a recently acquired 2010 MX-5 Miata (he's planning on boosting it to a 1,000hp 20b Turbo), the drift king has created his own event, Red Bull Drift Shifters, that's done away with the judges and created a course that scores the drivers' skill using specialized equipment.

That is just like my drive to work hahah. I wish Mazda would go back to that body style and have a reliable engine.

Unfortunately, the current state of Mazda's automotive design language has been going further and further away from the organic curvy shape embodied in the final rx7 which to me was last seen in the nb miata. Hell, the NC is almost the same size as the FD.

You could do it on your own with an LSx in a donor 3rd gen.

That is some seriously good drivers skill to handle all of that power and move the car through that course with what looks like little effort.

I am waiting for his 20b Miata to hit the scene!!!
