    Tire options for my miata

I am going to need new tires on the miata soon. Currently I have NB wheels with 185/60 R14. I am wondering if I can get a slightly wider tire and if it would benefit me? There is a good possibility that I will be getting coilovers this summer so I will be slightly lower. Not slammed by any means I need it functional as I have started to track/autox the car occasionally. It is my DD.

If you jump up to a 15 inch wheel you can run a 205 50 15

195-60-14 will improve your grip if you decide to upgrade tires. On the other hand, upgrading to 15'' wheels and 205-50-15 tires will make a dramatic difference even with average summer tires. That's exactly what I did, and I'm very happy with the results.

if you want more grip you will have more options and tire sizes in the larger 15 inch size. So.... one more vote for plus sizing to a set of 15's

I didn't think the NB's came with 14" wheels, but I guess some did. As mentioned, the answer is yes, but you will get more performance tire options with a 15" wheel.

Base NB1s came with 14" wheels. A 195/60-14 will work fine. Honestly, the 14" tire selection these days is pretty thin, you could begin to say that for 15", too, but there are many manufacturers still pumping out 195/50-15 and 205/50-15 for the OE 15" Miata wheels. If you are considering an upgrade beyond 14 or 15" oems, I would suggest browsing Goodwin Racing. They offer many different sizes and widths specifically tailored to Miatas with excellent pricing. I have dealt with them on many transactions and I consider them among the best Miata-specific vendors.
