I shoved car wash sponges in the rear tunnels of my Miata. Seems to have helped slightly. Maybe placebo but it's cheap.
WD 40 would probably remove the residue if the new owner is reading this thread.

Are the locking clips plastic or metal? Not sure it's a huge difference being that the softtops can be easily cut open with knife if someone really wants in.
