DIY: Swapping Miata badge for European MX5 version

Nothing new to our European friends as they've had this forever but for us in North America who want a nice little change, you can change your rear Miata badge to a European MX-5 version quickly and inexpensively. I did this on an '02.

First, order a rear badge from mx5parts.uk ( http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/mazda-mk25...dge-p-491.html ) and wait a week for it to arrive.

Comparison of old and new along with clips and socket used to push on the retaining clips

Then take your driver side tail light out and you can access the retaining clips on the two pins holding your old badge on. You can use a fork or snap puller or just break the badge off and then reuse the retaining clips.

Note: your badge may only be glued on instead in which case you can use a heat gun or hair dryer and dental floss to remove it. This article is based on my experience with 01+ badges.

Clean up the area and see how much your paint has faded then put on the new MX5 badge. You do not need adhesive pads, just the retaining clips. If you lost or damaged your old ones, you can order some new ones from the same place ( http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/clip-badge...ng-p-1220.html )

The easiest way to push the clips into place is to use a socket about their same size and push.

    That's about it.

    Excellent thread!

When I did my 95's badge, I stuck the Euro one on with double sided tape. I think I did this because the stock one was also taped. I don't seem to remember the little holes.

It's much the same with the stock rear spoiler we get in the US on RX-8s. Desirable in the UK but a lot of people swap them out here.
