First drive of the year in the Miata project car on a nice summer day. Feels good with the new SuperMiata XIDA suspension and sticky Yokohama tires. I always forget how small and slow these cars are. Daily driving a 300hp turbocharged Alfa Romeo spoils you. But once I readjust Im reminded how much fun they are on windy roads from 40 to 70 mph where theyre really in their element.

Yes super happy. I think the last time I drove it was August 2017 right before I shipped it back up to my dad. In the meantime he added the new suspension and tires. Yes Id love to get it on track. Just need seats, harnesses, helmet and HANS. Itll get there eventually.

Time, money, effort, ambition, opportunity. The desire remains but the others are sometimes in short supply. But I hope the Miata will remain a forever car for me. Its been a long journey and were not at the end yet. Not even close.

Keep it up. I havent touched my Honda CB350 in a couple years but hope to get back to it one day. I just hope it hasnt deteriorated too much by the time I regain interest in it.

It took a couple years for me to find time and parts for my '75 400F. David Silver Spares and eBay are your friends. I also found a NOS headlight on Craigslist - in Canada. So long as it's not sitting out in the elements, it should be fine. Is your 350 a twin or a four?

Love your Miata! The combination of Panasports, single-diagonal roll bar, ITB's, clean-and-simple aesthetic approach is both visually and audibly delightful.

Twin. My challenge is completing the fabrication of custom parts and then tuning/optimizing everything so it works well. The bike is highly modified. On the to do list is weld up a new front fairing stay with integrated adjustable steering stops in the right location, get the front forks working (they've never been right since rebuild by MRP with Race Tech Gold Valve - hoping just a simple change to the right amount of 5W or 10W oil will fix it), setup rear suspension static sag/ preload, improve the custom worm drive clutch lifter mechanism, install front fender, safety wire everything and tune the carbs.

Thanks! I've tried to keep it simple and classic. Easier said than done! In the future I'd love to do a wire tuck, fresh paint, new soft top and finish the interior restoration. I've got a crack-free dash and new simple door panels waiting to be installed and some NA seats that await new leather covers. The brakes could also use some attention. It's forever a work in progress.

This is my first attempt to record my Miata with the GoPro action camera and Rode Wireless GO II microphone setup.

I put one mic/ transmitter in the engine compartment next to the TWM ITBs and the other in the trunk with a lavalier mic taped to the rear bumper. The gain was set wrong so the sound was clipping so much. It was all ITB induction roar and hardly any exhaust note at all. I think the loud ticking noise from the engine is the fuel injectors. At least I hope so.

It will take some practice for me to get the camera and microphone settings dialed in. Which means more fun drives in the Miata.

Hopefully just injectors! I know the ones on my turbo car were loud.

Car dialed in > Camera and Microphone Dialed in.

I cant tell if youre joking or not. I agree it might be a lifter. But it also sounds like injectors. I suppose the only way to know for sure is to pull the valve cover and perform an inspection and measure the actual clearances. I should probably do that anyways. But given the long list of other things to do and the constant pull to enjoy the car instead of working on it, Im really dreading doing that job.

Im trying to capture the essence of what its like to drive my TWM ITB equipped Mazda MX-5 Miata but Im still leaning how to use the GoPro action camera and Rode Wireless Go II microphone. In my previous attempt, the sound was clipping so much it was all intake roar and hardly any exhaust because it was so distorted.

So I went for a Sunday drive and I tried different mic positions and set the gain to 30dB pad and got the opposite effect. I put one mic/ transmitter in the passenger compartment clipped to the leather door pull and I put the other one in the trunk connected to a lavalier mic taped to the rear bumper near the exhaust tip. But it seems that I still have too much gain on Mic2.

This time its all exhaust and hardly any intake sound. You can really hear the exhaust pops on deceleration. More experimentation is needed. Next time I think Ill try Mic1 in the engine compartment again but further away from the ITBs. And Ill try moving Mic2 further away from the exhaust. Its all about finding the right balance between mic input gain and mic position. If that still doesnt work then Ill have to try merging the two audio channels in the transmitter and enabling the safety channel which gives me an additional -20dB pad but requires more effort in post production to merge the audio and video back together.

Long time no update. After years of neglect I decided to prep my car for upcoming SCCA autocross event so that I can qualify for the Mazda Motorsports Development Team Support Membership, which grants you dealer wholesale pricing on OEM parts. Since I needed to choose a racing number to identify my car to timing and scoring officials, I decided to go with the iconic #27.
