    MSSS1 speakers stopped working

I tried to find information on the MSSS1 relative to my issue but came up empty handed. Everything was working fine and then, bam, no speakers. The seat thumpers are still working but I read those aren't speakers, just for vibration. Any one ever had an issue like this with theirs or know any possible solution? All I can think is that the unit somehow just went bad. Any info would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Have you done anything to the radio or speakers recently?

Nope, it has some pioneer speakers in the doors but as far as I know everything else has been left alone. It all was working normal as can be and the speakers just stopped working. I replaced the drivers window motor and regulator the day before but never messed with the speaker wiring or anything. I really like having the factory msss and hope I can figure something out to get back to working.

Sure maybe you didn't bump the speaker wire loose somehow?

Is it the speakers is both doors or just the one side?

Both doors and headrests. No speakers working at all.

Well I'm not a stereo guy, but I wonder if the amp died, they are built into the radio on this unit iirc?

Maybe Toolman or Agent Orange can chime in, they seem to know more about stereos.

Kinda hard to diagnose over the Internet but the first thing that comes to mind is that Pioneer speakers in the doors are probably 4 Ohm and the stock speakers were a different resistance.

Although they could work for a little while, the stock amp is dedicated to two door speakers, two door tweeters, four headrest speakers and two transducers (thumpers). That's quite a lot to manage before changing everything up with aftermarket door speakers. It's a pretty complicated and delicate system for stock.

Since the transducers are still working, so then must the head unit which rules out a single blown speaker. I'd do the basics such as checking connections at the amp or back of the stereo first.

I've never worked on an NA MSSS1 but I understand it uses a separate sound processor module which may be worth looking into but again, no hands-on knowledge here. IMO, it would be a good time to go completely aftermarket unless you really like keeping it stock.

Exactly what I was thinking. I kinda like having the MSSS but probably better to just move on to an aftermarket head unit.

Test the speakers individually, but frankly I doubt you have a speaker problem, since none of them are working.
It is likely a Head Unit/Amp problem.

I have a 1993 miata with aftermarket headunit and aftermarket speakers both in doors and the seats when i purchased it. Everything worked fine until one day shortly after i had my brother ride with me my radio would start turning off and back on and would not play any sound through the speakers for a minute or two then it would just start playing music again. After a couple of weeks of sound in and out i realized that my brother who was little over 300lbs cut into a speaker wire in the seat it was grounding out the whole system so check the doors especially where you just did the work and see if you have a speaker wire grounding out the whole system.

Can you trade your brother in for a smaller one?
More seriously, it is not unusual for one shorted speaker wire to cause the entire head unit to shut down.
