Question Which Miata should I buy?

Hi there. I'm buying my first Miata and have found 2 good options.. but I really cant decide which to buy! I'd appreciate some opinions to help me make up my mind

    1) 1994 Laguna Blue. It has upgraded adjustable suspension, a matching hard top, LSD, Stainless steel exhaust, soft top with rear glass screen and is currently undergoing a full respray. 73,000 Miles. The price will be around $3650.

    2) 1996 VR-Ltd, one of only 800 made. It has the series II engine (upgraded to 133bhp, 16 bit ECU and a lightened flywheel) 4: 3:1 final drive ratio, LSD, Bilstein suspension, extra bracing. 83,000 Miles. $4700

I prefer the colour of the first car and feel like its better value, but I really love the interior of the 2nd car with the embossed leather seats and headrest speakers. Both sellers are reliable - the 2nd one has a great reputation and has carried a lot of work out on the car.

I really don't know which to go for.. help!

Your first link to the VR-LTD is broken, does that show the exterior? I do agree that that interior looks very good, but you can always upgrade that.

I would prefer the first. It is less modified, has a better 'core' value with the hardtop.

Sometimes a rare model is a curse because replacement parts can be difficult to find. Also, someone who has modified a car has intimate knowledge of the idiosyncrasies of the modifications that aren't passed along to the next owner. This can make diagnosing future issues difficult and expensive, requiring a steep learning curve on your part, or a specialist.

The interior on the second one is nice, but I think it should give you inspiration to apply to the first. Headrest speaker seats and embossed leather can be retrofit into the first one.

    Good luck!

The second car is actually completely stock! I do agree the first seems better value though. I have considered doing up the interior, unfortunately those specific seats are impossible to find

Welcome to the site!! When are you getting the Eunos Roadster?

I fixed your photo links, except one that was not a complete link. Find that photo again and Copy/Paste it from the title bar of your ad.

I would get the 1996 VR-Ltd, one of only 800 made, and because its a sexy color paint similar to the Classic BRG and then swap in a Tan Interior.

Looking at your photos you mean the VR-Limited Combination b

    Is that correct?

Both look great. I don't think there's a wrong choice.

Thank you! It should be working now.

If I get the vr-ltd I could have it by next week. The Laguna blue is being resprayed at the moment so I'd have to wait a couple of weeks.

Yes it is the combination B

Although I'm not a big fan of the seats in the VR Limited it may be a better choice. As Phatmiata says, it is very rare. If you are tending toward the Laguna, it may be wise to hold off until you've seen it painted. A new paint job can make or break a car. I'd probably choose the Laguna. They both look like nice cars, let your heart help you decide.

With a reworked engine and ECU?

Those seats aren't really anything special. Finding the OE seats with headrest speakers and having them recovered to match is nothing ground-breaking. I even think you can order the recover sets still as a kit.

I say get the Laguna, if it is currently getting resprayed then you will have a beautiful NA with a hardtop and fresh paint. The exterior of these cars is what is important. All mechanical and interior bits are easily changed.

Yeah, just ask for the rear spoiler to be removed and the mounting holes filled (if applicable) before they paint it.

The blue one is a lot cheaper, has a hardtop and fewer miles. I bet you can duplicate the interior of the green one, come out money ahead and have a hardtop. The only thing I do not like about the blue one is the spoiler. But some people like that stuff.
