I believe Stealth97 had a thread on cr that detailed his various interior restoration projects. One of those was stripping and repainting the dash top, as well as making some repairs. Maybe a decent reference.
And yeah, there's definitely another all red dash I've seen posted here. No idea whose, though.

IIRC, Tristan had stripped the black off and then applied a wax to 'nourish' to exposed red dash. For me, personally, its too much red. But, I'd rather have too much red than the shitty, tacky black crud I have now.

How does he even get in the car, in the first place?

^It looks like there is also a significant amount of glare on the windshield. That's the only thing that's stopped me from painting the top of my dash tan.

IMHO, you would have to paint the dash, Red, black or silver etc. It would be real hard to get it clean enough without.

That's my dash. I used carb cleaner to get the black off... Now, its cracking. Be careful what you use.

carb cleaner is solvent based, which probably dried it out really bad, I will probably try DSR-5 or Goof Off on mine when I get around to doing mine.

I have done 5 with cheap carb cleaner with no issues….I didn't let it sit long though.

On a 91BRG, i fixed the a crack and then removed the texture and gave it a finish of the cluster cover…..Looks awesome.
Unfortunately i didn't take a pic before i delivered it.

I have another LE dash to do for "Cool Whip", not sure what ill do with that one once i get it stripped.

Cracked dash is common on all NA6 dashes.
I slightly loosen the screws into the back brace of the dash to allow for heat expansion.
Did my 93LE over 10 years ago, no issues…….so far.

Used paint thinner to remove the black goop from my red dash. Lacquer thinner melts the red plastic. 2K thinner worked better. Couldn't get it perfect though. Traces of dark stain remain. Going to use 73Bacon's two can method and paint the dash all red within the next month.I'll post it up when it's done.

I did not even spray the carb cleaner on, just on a rag and worked it with some brushes... No biggie, I'll cover the top with vinyl or something next time its out. I tried goof off and it wasn't strong enough.
