    GV Tail Light Questons

I'm late to the GV tail light fan club but Revlimiter's posts on Sharka's new paint job showing how the panel's edges were blended into the bodywork threw me over the top.

So now I am looking--and thinking--hard about getting one. Here are my questions in random order:

    1. Is it true that the Mazda Porter Cab tail lights are no longer made? If so, does anyone know of a source for some leftover new ones? I don't want LED lights because the look anything but vintage.

    2. Has anyone ever deleted the backup light and had the space filled before painting. Anyone seen this done? I tried to find an image of this on Google images, but couldn't find one. I think the panel would look better without the rectangular light--which to me seems inconsistent with the circular tail lights. Of course, backing up at night would become a high risk maneuver.

    3. What's the cheapest way to snag a new GV kit (complete with everything and orginal Porter Cab lights? I've bought a lot from Rev9 in the past and Maxime is terrific, but $900 for the kit...????? Any cheaper options out there? (and yes, I am painfully aware that I missed last year's group buy).

    Thanks!!!

Yeah that does look good. Then just get a zoom reverse light and mount it under the bumper

You can still get the Mazda Porter Cab lights in Japan. I found a brand new set on the auctions. And I always see used ones for sale.

Hit up rod at Tetsuya Garage for the lights and he can find them on the auctions.

He can probably find you a used panel as well

Are new sets hard to find on the auctions or fairly frequent?

How can I know if I am getting all the wiring and other necessary pieces?

Also, I suppose if I find a new set of the plastic lenses, then a used set of the lights would be just as good since the lenses are the only visible part.

Rod recently quoted me 350 shipped for a new panel, and found two sets of lights on YJ for around 300 or so.

I got lucky and found a brand new complete panel for 650 locally.

    You did get lucky!

Was the $300 for new or used lights?

76 Corvette tail lights fit the GV panel. And there's the Carbon Miata version as another option.

With multi-color LED's, couldn't someone feasibly make a third brake light that lights up white while in reverse, while retaining the red light while braking?
