I think it is as easy as swapping the two wires to the light.
Here is how I would do it..
    1. Disconnect the two wires but leave the ground wire attached to the bulb assembly.
    2. Turn on the lights. Use a test light to check which wire is being powered.
    3. Take that powered wire and touch it to the each bulb assembly wires one at a time. One wire should yield a brighter light than the other. You should attach that wire to the dimmer bulb wire.
    4. Now attach the other wire that is remaining.
    5. Hit your brakes and see if everything is working properly now.

I've added a few external changes to bring my NB8C closer to the classic look I'm hoping to achieve. From Jass Performance the Chrome/Black LED Side Indicators. The chrome luggage rack from Racelands. The Zoom Engineering - Retro Racing Fuel Lid and the superb REV9 Runabout M2 Mirrors.20190107_164216.jpgIMG_8352.jpg20190107_164021.jpg20181215_152656.jpg20181210_182320.jpg

Antonis' retro-inspired NB, spotting my old set of Wats (which ended up in the right hands)

IMO really well executing the retro theme!

As I'm still aiming for the retro modern look, it was time to replace the RFP1s for something more classic. I've always like the look this style brings. These are Rota RBs in 15 X 8 +25 and fitted with 205/50. No scraping either which is a bonus.

Looks great! I see you lost the headlight surrounds (more vintage!) and billet grill (maybe less?). And what are those new seats?

I'm an NA guy but have always wondered, do NB owners ever think about removing the nose badge?

I have removed mine, but nose looks empty without it. The NB one is much better as it is smaller, but I have some Revlimiter goodness to be installed.

The billet grill along with most of the good gear was removed when I put it up for sale. I'm slowly putting it all back together as it was and even better. On a side note I had purchased a low, 50Km NB8C and decided to sell it instead. Its Titanium colour didn't do it for me. Still, I added 14,000Km in 5 months and made a big profit.
The seats are MazdaSpeed that even came with NB rails. Super expensive but extremely comfy. As much as I love them, I'm unsure what to do with the interior. I could keep these and use white or gray on the door trims or use the seats I got from a UK 2000 model Icon. I like the look of the Icons seats with separate head restraints. I have the entire parchment interior I could use. It's a dilemma.

As I said, I love the look of the separate head restraints. It's more in line with the classic look. I have all of the mahogany trim as well. I think it would go well with the black exterior. The trouble is I would need to swap the earlier NB8A door trims and centre console for NB8B ones. These weren't available in Australia.

Hm. I like the parchment interior, but I am partial to it. On the other hand Mazdaspeed seats are more "race" and 90's period correct than retro. That being said, I might be tempted to re-trim in the same parchment leather as the original seats and use them. Or sell them for a profit, and re-trim the NB Icon seats if needed (drivers' one looks "tired")

And please start a build thread

Now that we're in "lock down" I may have time to do a build thread here. I do have one on MX5 Internation and "Sooty" has his own Facebook page as well.
If I could obtain the parchment door trims and centre console for the NB8B, I would use the Icon seats, which as you said, need recovering.

I think you might approve of my solution, I'm keeping both. Icon seats will be retrimmed too. Build thread started too.
