    Suspension question

    Hey MR,

At this point I'm probably a nuisance but I'm gonna risk it and ask again. I some quality coilovers purchased for my mighty machine but I have a worry. Do I get an alignment done immediately after installing the coilovers or do I get the alignment done like a month after so they have settled and are they way they will stay?

Talk with your local shop for a package deal. Most will work with you on an initial set. Then a recheck once they settle in. At least I would but shipping yours here would break the bank.

Out of curiosity, what do UK shops mean by "alignment"? Tracking and toe? Full geo?

Alignment would be toe, camber the whole lot. But problem is they charge by pair of wheels. I just wanted to know if it is wise to let it settle first then get the alignment done when it was settled.

Install coilovers, drive 75-150 km. Just regular surface street driving.
Full-custom 4-wheel Miata alignment to your specs, with you sitting in the car is about £ 90 here in Atlanta. That is on a Hunter laser rack. YMMV.

That's why I asked! If you are mechanically inclined, you could set up a diy "alignment" session using nothing but strings and tape measure. It will get you in a decent ballpack until the suspension settles.

This might be useful. Most info is S2000-specific, but besides numbers, Miatas are pretty similar.

Harry is right, and the info is out there. It's a little geometry, basic tools, and basic math. I have done it on different cars, but they had less adjustment than a Miata.

As long as your alignment bolts are not rusted/frozen, no. It just requires method and patience.
