    I did a thing.

I craft my finest expletives while working on cars. It’s the muse for my art.

As do I. I just try to be more mindful when I'm not alone in the garage, lol

Freshened the engine bay with a light cleaning.

    What did you do?

(Don't laugh...I've never cleaned an engine bay in my life)

    I did a thing.

I vacuumed it, then used some long medium-soft bristle brushes and a cleaner to agitate the dirt out of the seams and crevices a section at a time. Then rinsed the completed section with water (lightly), wiped clean with microfiber.

White bays are good/bad for racing. You catch leaks sooner, but it shows everything.

The dirt and grime collects at the pinch weld and spot welded plates. The shot straight down on the shock tower and the seam along the firewall where the vacuum line run are most telling. As is the area under the hydraulic masters.

Currently shopping a replacement windshield. The largest chain quoted me $425 online, which seems kind of high. Going to see if any of my racing connections have a source. Mine is all scratched up and pitted from years of use. It has become a visibility concern during the day, but more so at night.

My new position has me driving into downtown Atlanta five times a week, mostly on the expressway. The accumulated flatspotting on my tires is becoming very apparent and mildly annoying. I ordered new tires, the same as I currently run, 205/50-15 Continental ExtremeContact Sports. I have been VERY happy with my current set, the flat spots are my own fault. With the rainy season upon us, fresh rubber will alleviate some of my tension driving into the city when wet.

I have also made arrangements to update some of my important safety equipment for racing, primarily my helmet. I tried on some new versions at Discovery Parts while at Atlanta Motorsports Park. I won’t say which one I ordered until it arrives, but I will say that top brands fit so much better, it’s very nice, and I have big head apparently.

Love the ECS's. They've been good tires.

I researched the hell out of that tire 3-4 years ago. I read a good article about them in MotoIQ, then while looking at different tests on Tirerack, I noticed in two separate tests they had tested it against its competitors on the same car days apart. The numbers and pricing made it a great value, especially since Michelin doesn’t make the Pilot Sport in 15” sizing.

I have been impressed with the first set and though about 40% of the tread remains, the flatspotting makes me concerned what it will do to the steering and suspension if left unaddressed.

What about a set of tire cradles for when your car is not in use?

Yes, but the flatspotting is from me ham-fisting the brakes at the track.

Also more inner wear than I like to see.

Not too bad for ~15-20k miles and an inconsistent rotation schedule, I suppose.

    I did a thing.

I put the ol’ Ryobi brushless 1/2” impact in the rollbar nuts under the car. I had been hearing some metal-on-metal chirps over rough roads.

I was a bit surprised how many more rotations I got out of all but two of the nuts. At 6/side only 1 didn’t really tighten down significantly.

I wonder how often you really have to tighten those. I know on my old car, I never did it once installed.
