So, whose got 595RS-Rs? RS3 owners chime in too.

Im really looking into getting a set of these tires. Theres a TON of reviews on the nasioc and everyone seems to love them.

People on s2ki are using them and claim theyre on par with RS3's for performance, but also say they only get about 2 track days out of them.

Who's got these on a miata that is street driven? How many miles should I expect? I know theres a lot of ffactors to take into account, but give me a basic idea. I know a lot of guys have RS3's on DD's, what kind of mileage are they getting out of them? The subie and s2k guys all get <10k out of them, but to me thats irrelevant since the miata is so easy on tires.

These tires will be used on my NON-DD miata, I drive it through the passes and canyons about twice a week, the car is driven hard. Car is currently on some 400 treadwear bridgestones and Im overheating them by the end of my drive.

I have RS3s, but I don't daily them. After 10 months, a dozen or so autocrosses and about 2000 miles of street, I'd judge them about 2/3rds done.

It was my expectation going in that I would be replacing them every autocross season.

My current daily tires are a set of 2 year old Z1 Star Specs with about 16k miles on them. They're not quite down to the wear bars, but the grip dried up long ago. For most tires in the "extreme performance" category, this seems to be the norm-- grip goes away before the rubber wears off.

    YMMV. Literally.

I think my plan going into this is going to include throwing some decent, but used tires on my daises for long trips.

Wish i had seen this thread earlier... would have steered you towards the RS3s.

The 595RS-Rs are decent if you're on a budget and need something better than your average All-Season.

Unfortunately they aren't in the same ballpark overall as the RS3, Star Spec, RE-11, XS, RT615K (Keep in mind the RT615 is probably the bottom of the barrel in that group.)

I'd run them on a street car, personally. But not on a street car that i expect the most grip possible out of.

I'd do the RSR as a cheap alternative too.

I've done what you want to do - RS3 + uhh... safe canyon driving. ;]

I daily'd mine, and canyon'd a few times. They lasted me a titch under a year (11 months+). They didn't really lose TOO much grip, but it was noticeably less grippy at the end of their life vs. new.

Have you run them personally? That's damn near the opposite of what I've read on other forums.

I guess ill find out, I just got mine mounted. They're definitely wider than I thought.

What is "most forums?" Guessing people with street cars that are just happy they got decent grip on a budget.

There's nothing WRONG with them, but they just aren't in the same class. In the street tire classes in SCCA, they aren't even on the radar, and it's for a reason.

If you like them, that's all that really matters, though.

FYI, though... most performance street tires run a bit wide. I have 205/50-15 Star Specs for the street meats for the Escort. Unmounted, they measured 217mm shoulder to shoulder. That should widen up a bit once mounted. The 225/45-15 RS3s run wide as well. My 245/45-16 RS2s i used to run on the Celica measured at over 255mm mounted.

But no, i have not run them on any of my cars, but i have driven cars that have run them. They're a very good street tire. I'd even maybe give them a shot for non-competitive track days, though from my experience, they get greasy when hot. I would just never compete on them.

I think what i was trying to say was that they're a good tire, but simply that the RS3 is better. Probably doesn't matter much on the street, though.

Once I get home ill link the threads. I'm currently on my phone. There's multiple threads on s2ki and nasioc in which the tire is compared directly with the rs3 for track only usage. Its the whole reason why I was asking about street mileage, because every thread referring to these tires has only mentioned track usage.

Also, I know that most performance tires run wide. These tires run even wider, in those same threads there's comparison pictures showing the width of the rsr's compared to other tires and they run " a size up"

Not saying your wrong either, I'm sure you've got more experience than me for sure. I'm just saying it doesn't match with everything else I've read about them.

    I know, i ain't even mad, tho!

I'm just saying that if these things were truly as good as those forums were saying, people would be racing on them, and they aren't. But like you say, from a street perspective, doesn't matter so much.

All i can really tell you for street usage/mileage is that RS2s can get 20k miles out of a set on a light car, which doesn't matter, since they aren't made anymore. And that Star Specs will easily hit 20k miles, will probably heat cycle out before they're used up. Don't know anything about mileage for the other options yet. Haven't run any other tires in this category for long periods on the street.
