I heard that too. Also the focus issue is kind of a gamble. Some are sharp, and some soft. Either you have to send it in for calibration or buy one that you already know is sharp.

Picked up a nikon 35mm f/1.8 during my vacation in vegas. Was down there for a indoors family reunion and it was a total lifesaver. I was on the fence about it or the 50mm, but I'd say the 35mm was the way to go. If you're outdoors, the 50 or 85mm would. You'll get more dramatic shots, but would be restrictive indoors. I'll post some up when I get around to them!
Hi folks,
I'm sorry to interrupt, I just wanted to say that I've taken my favorite car pic of 2012 (shot with my lame Sony nex point and shoot with a plastic 50mm f1.8 lens)...
Ok, this, was my last sarcasm of the year ;)
I wish you already all the best for 2013!

Stop taking pictures...the rest of us need to catch up in technique (well, I do at least)

lol. as you can tell, i know nothing about cameras. i just saw one on ebay model L105 For $117, which sounds alot better than the $600+ i was going to spend on a D3200. but for just taking shots of my car from time to time, i am not sure if the $600+ is worth it with the little use i will get out of it, but i mean i could always just start taking more pictures of everything.
i just know i am tired of the iphone quaility photos, and i want some good ones, for whenever i do want to take pictures of nice things.
If you're going for a DSLR and want to buy new, the D3100 will give you almost all of the capabilities of the D3200 for less.
The answer to your question depends on how much you're willing to pay and how much bulk you're willing to deal with, among other things.

Good lighting makes for better pictures. There was a mechanical snowman sitting behind my son that was reflecting the sunlight coming down the stairs towards him like a flash. Worked well
