Shifty's "long over due" Build Thread.

As the title states this thread is long over due for me. I've been meaning to make it for long time now and I figured if I didn't start it now then I would never do it!

It started 3 years ago when I bought my 2nd miata, A full ten years since I last owned one. I had plenty of cars between them, but as usual, nothing had the same feel. I searched for about 6 months before I found a well cared for higher mileage '91 BRG. Everything was in order it just needed a little maintenance.

    And Lots of cleaning!

The problem I have with repairing, replacing and modifying is that I just want to get the job done so I don't take too many photos of the car apart. I have three winters of taking the car apart and changing/replacing parts and a bunch of photos of the finished product. So I'll try to follow the timeline as it happened and catch up with the pile of new parts currently in the garage waiting to be installed and painted.

To give you an idea of where we're headed heres a list of parts installed or waiting to be...

    FM stage 2.5 suspension
    14"bbs rims
    robbins glass soft top
    Katskin custom leather
    Moddiction 1lbs shift knob
    FM frame rails
Boss frog double diagonal silver powder coated bar
    K.G. Works spoiler
FM carbon fibre vented head light cover
    FM complete replacement coolant lines
    FM master cylinder brace
    1.8 brake upgrade
    ballistic battery
    Custom Revlimiter gauges
    racing beat header
    FM high flow cat
    FM cat back 2.25" exhaust
    Jackson Racing cold air intake
    Garage Vary tail light conversion
    RX3 mazda badge
    Wilwood proportioning valve
and a bunch of misc. maintenance bits.

That engine bay looks great! Every time I see some daisys that are properly painted it makes me want to get a set for winter wheels. They look great!

Frame rails and some suspension work to come

    Frame rails installed

New racing beat springs on tokico blues with FM sways.

The FM sway bars are great and I think the "blues" would've been good for stock springs but they didn't work well with the Racing beat springs. It bottomed out on every bump! Good for now, but will have to change later.

    New leather!

I kinda regret not getting the inserts in suede instead of leather, but live and learn.

Also my 12 year old battery finally died, so I got this,

Tokico Blues suck regardless of spring choice.

Picked up Shiftys younger brother last summer. A 6Gt with a 6 speed manual. I waited 7 weeks while it was shipped from Japan!

    Home at last,

On to the last months work! Finally caught up! Up until this point I was doing mostly maintenance type things and not much performance stuff. The current suspension is an FM stage 2.5(no pic of the install) and I did a 1.8 brake upgrade while I was at it. But it was time to the stuff that I always wanted to do, starting with the exhaust

Heres the other half of that exhaust.

Which was then followed up by a Jackson Racing Cold air intake.
