Just rotate the muffler a bit and have an exhaust shop weld it on and you should get the look you're going for. I think it might actually end up looking pretty good; go for it!

Mine is like your first pic on the first post. I did it several years ago to allow the spare to be put under the car.
It's got a bad idle drone. I added a resonator just after the cat to smooth things out.
You may know me as RAB or BCT or Rick depends on where you look.

I recently went back to the OEM mufffler on my NB but I plan to have them weld on a stainless steel or chrome turn down tip with that sideways "slight upturn" deal.
i welded on just like that on vplukas's car. Look over on clubroadster for the so long gay boys build.
