I've seen that style on some 18-wheeler rigs as well. I agree that it could look pretty boss on a pitcrew or bugeye styled Miata.

Well, I bit the bullet and purchased a set of the Trucklite Phase 7s. These are the best headlights that I have owned so far! Headlight shake is a bit more noticeable but not terrible - as you mentioned jnshk, probably has more to do with worn hardware than anything else. Expensive headlights but worth it as a fair portion of my daily commute is on unlit rural roads and now, I can actually see what is up ahead of me and on the sides of the road without blinding oncoming traffic. The high beams are an absolute revelation! Now, every bulb on my car is an LED...so far, so good!!

So here's what my headlights look like without the covers installed. This just doesn't look "finished" to me and I want to find chrome trim rings.

Is there such thing as a universal trim ring? Do I need to buy entirely new headlight assemblies with trim rings included? Please help me overcome my ignorance!

If you can't find any off the rack I'm sure garage5 (vendor on this forum) can make you a custom trim ring.

You might try MGB assembles, they should be cheap and fairly easy.
They have nice trim rings and early ones don't have adjuster dimples so there cleaner yet.
May run a set on my '41.
also may try Cobra headlights which those may be.

The price seems reasonable, so I'm gonna give them a try. Thanks, Rogue!

Hmmm... Those look to be about the same size as the Fiat assemblies used in the Morettes, wonder if they mount the same way. I've wanted to upgrade to something that looks like that for a while. Just something else on the to do list.
I've got a lot less horsepower - luckily they are Japanese horses - usually in better shape and more motivated.

They will fit(smaller ones). I looked into it when I used to have my Morettes. Esqueleto uses the Hella lamps. They are super expensive so I never went that route. Rallylights.com sells Hella Lights. They are the 8405 Series.

A guy in Japan did the exact same modification. He used custom brackets to mount the Hella lights to the Morettes.

Oh man, that looks great. Thanks for posting that info! The options on the rallylights page is a little confusing at first glance, I'll have to take a more in-depth look later.

I've been using Cibié H4 headlamps since early '70's. These are European Code lamps. Standard 60/55watt bulbs. They come up on eBay now and again. And on Amazon; http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...460_em_1p_0_ti

You can't go wrong with this set-up. Sharp cutoff with a 15° rise to the right to illuminate the right hand side of the road, and the mirrors of overtaken vehicles.
(for off-road use only of course.)
