    Camshaft opinions...

ok so im looking at some cams, but im not sure exactly how to pick the right cam, im getting MS in the mail in the next week or so, and after that i want a cam for the car. i currently have a ported/rebuilt head, and it was decked .010" over so i have a little higher compression and a little better air flow, and after the cam i plan on fabbing up some gsxr itbs, so i want a halfway aggressive cam...

lol, so who has opinions on picking a cam??
im thinking (256/9mm) for both in and ex
    or what about 272* duration?

As far as aftermarket profiles go, those two are what I see the most frequently.

You could always call the manufacturer and ask. They tend to know what'll work best. Just be prepared to state your goals for the engine.

I would call Crane Cams. You can tell them your exact setup and what you want the motor to do. You'd be surprised by the price of having them custom grind a cam as opposed to buying a new one off of the shelf. In addition to that you get one that will do exactly what you want.

Not actually. There is a big misconception that custom cams are more expensive. When it comes down to it the prices are usually pretty close AND with a custom grind you are able to get something specific to your setup.

hmmmm cool, im thinking of doing a custom ex to in cam swap, by getting the cas gear professionaly welded to the ex cam and just swap that in...

^it's been done a million times. it's called the "exhintake", and you cut off the exhaust cam CAS drive... not weld it to... whatever you're thinking of.

I was sure they just took the ex from the newer motors and put it the in.. no cutting or welding?

i have a 1.6, cas is on the intake cam, so i would need to put the cas drive onto the exhaust cam, hence why i would be welding... ive done plenty of research
